Before the holiday craze

Hello MyLotters! As the weather is gradually changing and before the holiday craziness, I have found myself going through drawers and closets and literally amazed at what I find! Samples, clothes I don't need, and other stuff just put there until 'later'. Welcome to 'later'! I also think of others who don't have what I do and donate what is extra. Do you find yourself doing somewhat the same thing before the holiday craze? Do you think of others that aren't as fortuneate and donating to them? I know that this won't solve the worlds problems but it does help to ease the burden for a little while.

Thats definitely an important thing to think of. When I was younger I was always involved in a church donating. We used to go out to Wal-mart and buy a lot of things off of wish lists of kids. It felt good to give back to people who aren't as fortunate as me. Now whenever my mom asks if I have any clothes to donate to charity I always look through my closet and things that don't fit or that I just don't wear anymore.

yeah, I think most people are willing to give and are good hearted and want to help people out. People get so busy so they tend to forget about giving back, my mom always donates blood on a regular basis, I think I should start doing that as well. When I was a baby I was in the hospital for a while because I had a lot of health issues and somebody donated their blood for me, and she said thats the reason why she donates her blood now.

Hi! That's great that you're giving to those that are less fortunate! I find I ask myself, do I REALLY need 8 white shirts that are basically the same? Usually no so I can put a couple aside and feel good that I did as it will help out someone else. I do remember when Katrina hit and I had no money to give but I did have a wardrobe and figured that it could be replaced (thanks to Salvation Army) eventually whereas those who had lost it all, needed black pants and shirts NOW!

Hi and thank you for what you said! I do like to think that the efforts we make do help others, especially if they want to help themselves. It makes me happy too; to know that I did what I could to help others. May we all be as thoughtful.

The weather has been very hot and today it is back to normal. Yes, it is great to go drawers and closets getting rid of anythings no used anymore. This is called clutter clearing and it is lovely to give to charity. Some people can't afford much and so it is wonderful for them to get second hand stuff like clothes and furniture at a low price. I am glad that you are having an enjoyable and useful time before the holiday craze.

Hi! Yes it is great to know that we can help those who don't have what we do and give them a chance at improving their lives. I know I sound like a do-gooder when I say things like this but help has to come from somewhere. Can't stay in the same place as there is always a way out.

I find myself doing this 2 or 3 times a year... Early spring, early summer, and just as autumn begins to feel like winter.. :P I used to give a lot of the expensive clothing items to a neighbor for her daughter, but the girl was always running around outside and tearing them up right away because the parents wouldnt tell her not to. I gave her a $70 sweatshirt someone bought me once and the girl was wearing it as a playshirt. So I quit giving stuff to them after that happened enough times. There are no actual charities where I live. There are thrift stores that just take the stuff for free and sell it - and of course, they charge more for the designer items. So stuff now has a tendency to pile up around here until I bug everyone that I know in the family to see if they or someone they know might actually be in need.

Hi! I can't blame you for feeling the way you did about the sweatshirt as I would feel much the same way! Still there is always someone that needs help. Do you live near a church or a school where you could donate?

I always think to donate my old stuffs to other people who may actually need them. Specially in holidays my family usually gather our old stuffs that we don't use anymore. After gathering all that old stuffs we usually give those old stuffs to the worker on our farm. When I say old stuff they are still very usable, it is just we don't use it anymore. Instead of keeping them letting those things to get ruined because of their oldness why not share them. Well that is the spirit of holidays. Give and share my friends.

i was actually doing the same thing...i thought i was the only one. sometimes when we are too busy we just put things in our drawers and cabinets and attend to it later when we have enough time. I do consider other's needs. I donate things i found still useful in my closet. Specially this holiday season, at least we can help them feel somebody cares for them. God bless you in what you plan to do...

Unfortunately I rarely find something that I can donate because I myself don't use it or need it. Most of the times I donate money at Christmas time so I think it's as good as donating actual things. At least I hope my money goes to good causes, who knows these days:S

I haven't experience donating my old stuff to someone (other people), because I usually give it to my relatives. But having said that, maybe I will try this year. Helping others bring great happiness in me, especially to a less fortunate people.
