Can education really eliminate poverty?

The big question is can education really eliminate or can minimize poverty? After graduating college, some people tend to work since in their mind, they think that if they work, they can earn money and become rich. They don't realize that as long as you are earning you are bound for more expenses. There are a bunch of successful people who did not finish college or even high school but become billionaires. We can eliminate poverty if all the citizens will work hard and know how to differ wants from needs. Can education really save us? Can it make the people rich?

Proper education makes people learn to think, to have a perspective, to know how to manage themselves. This doesn't mean that education would eliminate poverty, but it would certainly decrease the rate of it. The problem is that there are many people who are very hard to be educated, and there are many who refuse to learn. I know that there are billionaires who haven't graduated, but they are only exceptions, these are people who are either too talented(musicians, movie stars, sportsmen) or too slick and they trick the law. And there are the inventors, who also can be considered too talented people. But I have hardly met a person who has graduated a good University and is poor. I know that there are many countries where the level of living is low, but if you learn well and are willing to work, you will make yourself a living from that.

The person who stops learning and progressing will eventually fail, because the world is changing too fast and it is difficult to be successful if you are not keeping up.

Yeah! That is very true. So, one must not stop from learning but should continue to learn everyday.

Indeed! Education does not eliminate poverty at all but just somehow decreases it. Those billionaires who didn't finish college are so lucky and are very few. Yeah they're gifted with exceptional talents. But even if the person has finished college, it doesn't mean it has to stop there because that person also need to do some hard work in order to become successful in life. Thank you for sharing with me your idea.

Let me explain: Education has no direct relation with earning. It helps you to change your outlook. That helps you see or evaluate or grab the opportunities. That makes you rich. Without education, you will have to apply trial and error methods to be successful. With education, you can set a target and achieve that.

I agree with you. Education helps you to create goals in life and makes you know how to achieve the goals you've set by choosing the right choices. Thank you for responding.

Theoretically speaking, getting an education will means that a person is able to analyse, and think critically in dealing with problem. The education a person gain through school provide the basis knowledge and tool necessary for a person to become intelligent and smart. It put a person at an advantage position in today knowledge driven society compare to an uneducated person. But with an education degree alone, a person can't really eliminate poverty for himself unless he is also willing to get himself a career, work hard, and there is ample opportunity available, many other factors also must be present including personal factors in order to have poverty eliminated. Education alone is not a guarantee one will get out of poverry per se.

True indeed. Education only provides us with the basic knowledge and skills before allowing us to venture into the real world in the future. Education is really important for all of us because if we have it and have learned something from it, there is an advantage on our part. But we need to apply our learnings into the real world because if we don't strive hard, then we will not be able to make a progress. We also need to do our part as well because the job will not come running for us. Thank you for sharing with me your idea.

I think we need more than education to eliminate poverty. They said education is the key to success.I believe they are right;but for us to be successful,we need more than just a key.We need ladders and doors to open. How can we be successful ,if there are no opportunities and nobody would want to help us? There are also graduates who had acquired good opportunities and receive good salaries but don't really have enough knowledge in handling their money. As a result, they only end up in debts, even worse than unemployed people. One thing we really need if we want to be rich is financial literacy.Even if you're not a degree earner as long as your knowledgeable, then there is chance that you will be rich.Besides, some educated people just earned their degrees out of cheating.Knowledge is the most important thing.

You're right...If we can't find a job,we don't need to wait until we have one,so we can feed ourselves. We can try to start a business or develop a skill to be self-employed.

As the saying goes, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." Take care.

Yes that poses another problem. There are so many people who are jobless. Of course, they would want to be successful but the question is: how will they become successful if there aren't any vacancies and job opportunities anywhere. This is just sad. Education is also important but students need to understand what they have learned and not just memorize them. Because in that way, they can be able to apply it. Knowledge is indeed important. We need to be knowledgeable about how a certain business goes and stuff because if we don't, it is still our loss because there are so many deceitful people nowadays, and we do not know who we can really trust. So the best thing to do is to learn about the business. Learn what you've gotten yourself into. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas.

Education cannot save us but it can help us better understand life. It helps empower us to do things we never thought we could ever do. It makes you feel better when you understand things and are educated. glowin100

Education just gives us a background or teaches us the basics before we start facing the world by ourselves. Yeah it does make you feel better when you know something because it would indicate that you've learned something from school. But the biggest challenge that we have to face is to apply all that we have learned and putting it into practice. Thank you for responding.

Yes proper education eliminate poverty. Education means not just studying books, parents as well as teachers have to guide and understand the students all ups and downs of life, how to interact with people and how will meet circumstances. Teach them all works are important and has got its own value. IF one is confident in his works he can make money.

Education is important because it teaches us all the basics before going into the real world in the future. After graduating, it's now our turn to face the world by ourselves. This is the part where we can see if we are able to apply what we have learned from school into our profession. Thank you for responding.

I think education can help someone in life but I do not think it will help them out of poverty always. It may help but it is like many things they say will fix poverty. I think there is a massive lobby to get people into college loans and get people into debt like they did with loans. I think if education was more affordable it would help with poverty but at it current state, I think it contributes to poverty unless it is affordable and allows anyone that wants to get an education to get one, instead of putting them in a lot of debt and giving them false hope that it will fix all of their problems if they get so much education.

That is very true. Schools, nowadays, have very high tuition fees. A lot of people think that if they finish college they would, in turn, become successful individuals and so, parents try to enroll their kids into schools that have high standards and with high standards, this would also be equivalent to high tuition fees, which even more contributes to poverty. I truly believe that education is really important but it doesn't really matter as to what school the person enrolls. It just depends on the person's willingness to learn and then, applying all things he has learned into the future. Thank you for responding.

Education can eliminate poverty if the person who has attains a good education has a work prepared by the government. Right now as we can see, there are many people who are able to graduate their bachelor degree yet there are no work prepared for them. It does not totally eradicate poverty. Poverty will never be eliminated because it is getting worst. Person must be responsible and be diligent enough to find for a job to have food for the belly. It is so hard to find a job here. Education is better but it does not eliminate poverty.

That is very true! There are so many graduates every year and yet there are no vacancies or jobs available. The economy is not getting any better. Instead, it is getting worse. Yeah the people have to work hard to find jobs but they can't find any because there isn't any vacancies.

Education might help eliminate poverty. But, having education does not really necessarily mean that it would eliminate poverty. Having education is just a mean or way to get out poverty. There are a lot of people nowadays that are successful, I mean people who really get out from poverty and who are now members of the elite society without having education or does not have a chance to have education when they are young. Therefore, I could say that it really depends on how people strive with there great effort in order to get out from poverty. On the other hand, being educated means that you are now capable of doing something way beyond what are expected from you, and so you are expected that you could go beyond on your status already. That is why education is sometimes correlated with elimination of poverty.

You got that right! Education only provides a mean on how to eliminate poverty. I've also seen a lot of people who are very successful and yet they haven't even finished their schooling. It all really depends with how you struggle and how much effort you put in life. But still, education is important for all of us. Thank you for sharing with me that.

Education till a certain level is necessary to know how to work, how to handle co workers, how to do your administration. If you can't read or write you have a big problem. The only way to be succesful is to let others do all the work for you and you have to trust them they don't cheat on you. There are countries where people prefer to beg instead of working. Especially if it comes to doing farmwork. They don't understand that farming (having your own food and what left over can be sold) is one of the most important things if you want to stay alive and want to go in business. You have to start somewhere. If you are not willing to work hard yourself you can motivate nobody to do the same for you. Education is also necessary to understand how other poeple live and why. A billionaire (you can get one too if you win the lotery), a business man has to know what his customers want. If you are selfish if it comes to that your business won't have a long life. If you think only education can make rich you are wrong. Unless you win the lotery, you steal/rob a bank or someone leaves you a ship full of money you have to work to make money and also to work (invest) to keep your money. Education is necessary to open up the mind but if we all join university it won't guarantee us all we get a great job or get rich.

Exactly! We need education to know the basics, to guide us in the future when we are already on our own. Most people have the wrong notion that if you've finished college, surely you'll be successful in life but then, that's not always the case. Everyone has to invest something or make some sacrifices in order to reach one's goals in life. You are right. We all have to work to make money. It's not gonna be easy but with patience, surely you'll reap something. Thank you for sharing with me your thoughts and ideas.

Hello clearwater I think that we have to get the education in right way.We always see that some people who get education but after that they are not able to earn a lot and a not educated person can earn more.I think education is very necessary for everyone whether it gives you money or not because it surely raise your thinking standard. And for earning we should move towards some practical learning whatever we like.It totally depends on the person himself. If he wants to be some player or singer or mechanic or shopkeeper, it doesn't matter. There will money come but education is necessary.

Hi! Education sure is necessary. It gives you a great feeling of success especially if you've finished college. But life doesn't stop there. After finishing school, the person still has to work hard and from that, apply all the things that he/she has learned. Thank you for responding.

Yeah those people sure are very lucky. But I guess it's not only luck, they've also invested a huge effort to be able to make it on top. Education is still important and it can be a way to eliminate poverty but the person shouldn't rely on pure luck and instead make an effort in order to gain success in life. Thank you for responding.
