Good Samaritans

Good Samaritans are hard to find now-a-days. There was a freak accident the other day involving a motorcyclist who skidded off the road while trying to negotiate the thoroughfare clogged with traffic. He dashed against an electric post by the side of the road and fell unconscious. No one dared to go to him to help him out. I was on a bus which was on the move. The sight saddened me a lot. There were a number of people nearby who could have helped the unfortunate young man. Is it a sign of growing materialism or lack of fellow feeling?

I am sorry to hear it. Honestly, I am not sure whether I would help him or not if I were at the scene of the accident. I am wondering, if there were only the young man and me, I would try to help him immediately. But I wouldn't do the same when there were a lot of people. I might not feel guilty because I think someone else would help him. How selfish I am. I hate myself. I believe God definitely dislikes me.

Pibi713, do you know that most things never get done because most people are always assuming the next people would do it? How would you feel if you were the one laying on the gorund and everyone just stood hoping the next people would help you? Whenever you are in a position to make a difference, do not hesitate to do so. Remember that what goes around always comes around.

Sure everyone will be in such a predicament when faced with a situation like this. We often forget that we have a responsibility to our fellow beings.

That is too sad :( Good samaritans are truly hard to find these days. But I'd like to believe that there are still some left who are still willing to risk their life just so they could save another person.

Maybe there were people who helped him too but they were surprised of what happened that it took them a little while to move. Sometimes when these things happen we cannot react immediately on the situation. But I also agree to your point that we, as individuals, are more so into ourselves alone. How many of us still interact with our neighbors? We are only focus on the busyness of our lives that we forget that other people exist. The technology also became a culprit of this lack of feeling that we have. There are people who are so near to each other but still have to send an sms to communicate instead of getting up and asking the person what he wants. My point here is how can we have the intuition of helping if we do not interact anymore.

You are absolutely right when you say that it is technology which is the real culprit standing as a solid wall between us and the rest of humanity.

i think they are afraid to get involve it is the same things in our place unless a brave should come to volunteer to help it is when other see it before they become motivated to help. myself would not hesitate to help if i also has the capability but if i am in the situation just like what happen to you. the same things i could just watch with compassion and pray that someone would help him.

Very often situations turn tricky and Good Samaritans find themselves in the soup. In spite all these deterrents there are still people who are ready to help others without thinking about the consequences.

You know, I too can't reconcile the thought of why when there's an accident, people who are there would just want to watch a person dying and crowd the place than try saving that person's life. I just do wish that this has got to stop. It's never really a good view to look at, but please, HELP is what the person needs! Good Samaritan is really demanded nowadays.

It is hard to be a GOOD-samaritans this day. I do believe that their are still a lot of good-samaritans and it is not hard to find them. Its hard to find them or notice them because of the outlook of the society this days. You cannot just easily help someone. In my case, I am aware of this because I am in myself a member of the medical practitioners. Now, if I just hastily help someone that is in need there would be a great liability on me to get sued because I may get sued of what I am doing because I may add up a damage on him or her. And that is on my point view, now what if that is someone who doesn't know anything and just hastily help someone? That could add up some damage on the person who needs help. Worst of all based on my experience I have someone that I knew who got killed because of helping someone. He got shot by the person who did the accident to the child in which my friend is helping. Now, who would not get scared of being a "Good-samaritan". Sad truth but that is happening.

That is really unfortunate to get killed while going forward to help someone in trouble.

While I am aware that some people nowadays would find some fault to sue people, causing some peoppe to shy away from helpimg others needing help, I would however never let fear of some outrageous lawsuit prevent me form helping some who really needs help. Just imagine being in the place of the needy person.

Syncing with what others experience will sure help us sort out issues of others treating them as our own.

I think people are less feeling. Though a lot probably figured "someone else will help him" or if he was speeding through and winding in and out of cars they might have figured he deserved it. Something like that though you'd hope people will stop. I know people are less likely to help a stranded motorist because it could just be someone pretending to be stranded so they can rob you.

Yes, you are absolutely right when you say that it is lack of fellow feeling combined with allied thoughts that deters them from going forward to help the hapless victim.

You are right because only Jesus Christ is the good Samaritan. we can never expect people to be a good Samaritan. we cannot expect them to help us. If there are people people like that, blessed their heart. Even rich people just give donations to make their name popular. well that's life. We will not expect to prevent disappointments.

i think both are there now a days.. people never care about others they just go and find there own work. other problems they face is the police where they will be forced to answer all the questions by leaving their work... so people avoid it and pass by..

It is really a bad bad world where people with good intentions have to bear the brunt of legal hassles
