From being a smoker to being a nail-aholic.

I used to be a chain smoker. I smoke 2-4 sticks in 1 break. Cigs have been a part of my life for years and now, I decided to quit it. It's been more than 2 months since I quit smoking and I think I'm doing very well at staying away from it. It's not that easy though. I gained a few pounds because I eat more than I used to. The times that I originally use to smoke was replaced by eating. Good thing, I suddenly found something to dwell upon. Nails! Even before quitting smoking, I've been trying my hardest to keep my nails pretty and long but I'm having a hard time at it. My nails used to be so fragile. I get splits and cracks by the time I got 'em long enough to paint. When I stopped smoking, the desire for my nails to be pretty grew into an addiction. I want my nails to have a new color every week. And then I decided to try nail art and got pretty hooked! Especially when I found out about Konad, a nail art system popularized by Korea. It was so cool! Even though my nail addiction is much more expensive than my previous addiction which is smoking, it's healthier! :)

Although I do agree that smoking can be bad for your health I do not know if it is always a good idea for people to quit doing things that they like. If smoking wasn't really a big problem for you, addiction wise, then you might want to weigh out the pros and cons. Yes smoking is bad for your health. Bad You say that you gained weight? how much weight? do you exercise? Could weight gain put you at risk of other health problems that might be as bad as smoking was? If you just quit smoking because it was bad for you and then replaced it by other things you could be doing yourself more harm then good. If your new habits are costing you a lot of money they should be things that do make you truly happy and not just replace your original habit. I am not telling you to quit smoking and I am very happy that you have had the will to stop completely for many months. Just make sure that you are better off and are happy and can live with the changes that you have made. Maybe try starting a new habit that is good for your health and is cheaper than getting your nails done. some examples, writing, going for walks, exercise(obvious), or even painting or something creative.

i am glad to hear that another smoker successfully quits. i myself is a smoker too for years. and i have been trying to quit too. but it always comes back to me. with my busy schedule, my work and problems attached to them, my only sort of relaxation is smoking.

I'm glad you stopped smoking. It's nice to hear that you put your attention towards something that you love and that's not harmful :)
