burqa for Muslim women, mandatory or not ...

burqa for Muslim women - In vulnerable areas, the burqa could be a solution to keep self and honor a women muslim, but on the contrary, in the secure area, the burqa could make herself insecure and uncomfortable.

I'm ever read the arguments of Islamic law that says, if a woman lives in an environment that "vulnerable" and relative make harm to self or her honor damaged, then wearing a burqa is a obligation for a muslim women. Associated with the current state where turbans and burqas always imaged the identity of terrorists, it needs to be understood, actually wearing the burqa is not an obligation for Muslim women. The burqa actually the Arabic tradition of Arabs in the past time ago. Before Islam came, women entertainer (dancer belly dance) always wear a thin burqa. In fact, sometimes they dance accompanied snakes. This has become a tradition for centuries until this time, as far I know, it's dance was running. Based on this thing, judging from Islamic law, actually wearing burqa not a mandatory act or not an obligation for muslim women. In Islam, sunnah of worship divided in 3 criteria. - Behavior of Prophet (including stories, commands and his prohibitions) - Silence of the Prophet (not banned, nor mandatory) - Pledge of the Prophet (he would do although not accomplished) In vulnerable areas, the burqa could be a solution to keep self and honor a women muslim, but on the contrary, in the secure area, the burqa could make herself insecure and uncomfortable.

Muslim scholars have differing thoughts on burqa. Some scholars believe that it is required and some agreed that head scarf is enough.I think it's purely a woman's choice. Prophet Mohammad teaches us to observe moderation and not to overburden ourselves in religious matters. If using burqa is easy for you ,you can use it but if not you can disregard it.Personally I'm just comfortable with head scarf by now.I think that it's fine not to use burqa as long as you are not exposing body parts that are tempting to men.

agree .. and I really like your opinion ... as described by you, in fact the Prophet only requires women to cover hair and their body parts other than hands. This means, the face and palms woman still can be shown in the public. Unfortunately, sometimes a lot of thought was wrong about this.

I'm not saying that those who required women to wear burqa are wrong, as what I mentioned it's not agreed yet. Some text says that if you have really attractive face, then it's better for you to wear burqa, and Allah knows best. All actions we do depends on our intentions. So,if you're just force to do something unwillingly,it doesn't serve it's purpose.Wearing burqa is always a personal choice.

Time may change some adamant thoughts. Some kind of confusion is there in allowing man to wear any irreligious dresses and asking women to adhere to the customs.Decent dressing in any manner is to be appreciated.

yup ... agree. Whatever used by women must appreciated because women are the beauty and honor for man. Burqa aims to create a security that can keep self and honor the woman when the woman enter into in an area prone or an area which worry can be harmful to selves and their honor. But when the woman enter the area which safe and convenient, of course there is a question, for what wearing burqa ?

I don't think that women should be forced into wearing the burqa it should up to the individual woman to decide for herself through her interpretation of the religious teachings.Personally i am not keen on the burqa especially in western countries as i think it is divisive. However i dont think it should be banned like it has been in france rather they should be encouraged to integrate further.

well .... You are right and I agree with your opinion. Although the burqa is not compulsory clothing in Islam, but it does not mean a person or a government can ban the wearing of the burqa. Wearing a burqa or not, is the privacy of women muslim because just she who most know, is she in a state safe or not ....

I am not a muslim and I want to know about their culture and tradition when it comes to women's freedom. I saw the photo and this is not the first time I saw such kind of photo and I also read about Muslim tradition esp when it comes to their women. I wonder how much freedom a Muslim woman has...

Thank you so much for your explanation of the burqa. I greatly admire traditional dress of any country and have always had the utmost respect for it. When I was a child growing up I always saw Catholic nuns in habits. I thought them the most beautiful women on earth. I was from Christian faith so did not know much about their religion. Today here in the US, it is extremely rare now to see a nun in full habit. I got the pleasure of working with the Carmelite Nuns considered to be some of the most cloistered sector. Trend and styles of today have given way to tradition. And the one thing I find the most disheartening is as you say. If the Islam women wear the burqa it is already a stigma of terrorism. I have met women from Egypt, Syria and other countries in their traditional dress, I speak and embrace them to learn. I have yet to meet an unkind person because of them being in traditional dress. To me the Burqa gives much mystery to the beauty of the woman that wears it. I mean the nationality has such beautiful eyes anyway! bless you for explaining something so simply yet so beautiful to your nationality and tradition.

Marie thank you for your comment. It is simply beautiful. To me when a Muslim woman is covered up it should be an indication that she wants to be loved like a nun wants to be loved by her God. Unfortunately some Muslim woman do cover up but her mannerisms does not equate that of a nun. For those women I do not know why they bother.

Burqas are black colored(dark),so you can imagine how much hot it would be inside it.If it white then it would have been ok,but black burqas should be prohibited.

I always have this thought that burqa is more a 'cultural' or 'tradition' type of dressing women are wearing them, instead of it is a 'religion' requirement. I seriously doubt that koran specifically demand muslim women to wear it in the public places, other than in the house of worship. I think the mandatory enforcement of burka on muslim women is over blown by extremist elements within the religion followers. It is forcibly adopted by extremists like Taliban on Afghan women rather than a 'must' wear dressing for the female followers.

After reading your respondees I do agree that it is a personal choice. I remember that once a girlfriend reminded me as that the path to paradise takes some sacrifice. Some women might take some pains to cover up such as the burqa. But she doesnt complain somehow you know that she has got some peace from 'above'.
