In a statement Congressman Ron Paul claimed that the President could order the use of Drones to eliminate news reporters. Is he issuing a warning or is he a crack pot trying to get media coverage. In the US the press is free to do and say what they want with out fear from the government - right? That is what reporters thought http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=70018#axzz1ZyKD5k5i Of course this was done during the Civil War, but the president has been set that reporters who criticized the president or his policies could be arrested. What if any President decides that certain reporters were a threat to the Country? American reporter who writes for al Qaeda, Samir Khan, was killed by a drone attack in Yemen. When Ron Paul talks about the slippery slope how close are we? What if we have an economic meltdown and reporters start to call for the Presidents resignation and publish negative reports, Can they be put on the list?

He wasn't saying that the President would, just that using the logic of the President's advisers that someone who is a threat to National Security could be killed or Captured. President Lincoln has set the bar so that Reporters can be arrested by Executive Order and President Obama has established that American Citizens can be placed on the Kill list. Why not say that Mr Reporter, who is reporting something bad about the President or his administration or his policies, is a threat to National Security? http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/kill-list-obama-order/2011/10/05/id/413445

That just seems too extreme to me...a reporter is not a terrorist. I am ok with targeting terrorists..

@stary1: What your missing is that the criteria for qualifying as a terrorist is now that the President says you are one, not that a trier of fact finds that you are one based on consideration of evidence. While President Obama has taken the implications of this policy further than his predecessor, it was Mr. Bush who first implemented this policy against American citizen Jose Padilla.

Presidents haven't killed them yet for calling for their resignation, but I wouldn't give them any ideas. Although this person was an American, that doesn't mean that he wasn't working with terrorist, and shouldn't be treated any differently than a terrorist. I think that Ron Paul was giving an example of the power that presidents have, or in this case abuse of power.

I agree with Congressman Paul. This is scary as hell. With out judge and jury we are finding AMERICAN CITIZENS to be terrorists and taking them out accordingly. Remember back in the day when that silly old antiquated piece of paper meant something?

Well it didn't take a judge, jury, or arrest warrant for Alwaki or whatever his name is to be bombed and killed. There was no evidentiary hearing. There are reporters sympathetic to the terrorists. I think they're scumbags, but just liking and agreeing with the terrorists isn't a crime. By the current standard it's not impossible for one of those reporters to be bombed and killed in another country while covering a story or interviewing said terrorists for an article.

What about the embedded reporter who was covering an upcoming attack and drew the battle plan and broadcast it to the world. Could not that person be consider for the list, giving aid (information) to the enemy?
