Economic Recovery? State Benefits Disagree

United States

Nearly half of America is on state benefits wails the Daily Mail. Indeed it is something to wail about if your looking at the "Economic Recovery of the United States". While the Daily Mail and its commentators' remarks indicate this is due to 'benefits culture' and laziness, I call a darker problem. Actually two problems when you take a hard look. 1. The economic recovery is a jobs joke. It is either sluggish or standing still, the only people really recovering are the very and the super rich. The rich are making out like the bandits they are, especially if they are on Wallstreet. The rest of America can't seem to find much in the way of a hint in economic recovery, especially when standing in the unemployment line. 2. This nation's health is going down the toilet. Because of subsidies to farmers and growers certain types of food, healthy food such as fresh vegetables is more expensive than a box of Twinkies. When the economically stretched go shopping, they go for what they can afford, grabbing Twinkies to fill grumbling bellies. The waist lines expand. The country's health declines. The fact there's no health system in this country causes people to ignore illnesses until they reach the critical point. The uninsured cannot afford medical care at today's prices which are hyper-inflating. That creates problems with productivity when you've a sick workforce who can't afford to get medical care.

"the only people really recovering are the very and the super rich." They're not the only ones recovering, but a larger percentage of rich people are recovering because they are smart enough to know that getting back to work and fixing their problems works better than crying about the economy. The same techniques that got them rich in the first place help them rebound when things go badly. "When the economically stretched go shopping, they go for what they can afford, grabbing Twinkies to fill grumbling bellies. The waist lines expand. The country's health declines." That's not because they're poor, it's because they're either stupid, or just like Twinkies more than healthy food. I'm pinching pennies right now. You know what most of my meals are? Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Buy store brand peanut butter, store brand jelly, and a store brand loaf of bread (Target brand stuff is delicious). Write down the amount of money you spent and see how long you eat before the jelly and peanut butter run out (you'll go through bread fast, but that loaf only costs $1-$2). That is one heck of a lot healthier than twinkies and much cheaper too. Pasta isn't too pricey either. Just stop buying prepared foods. If you're already unemployed you should have plenty of time to make your food instead of relying on a microwave to cook food that someone else put together for you. "The fact there's no health system in this country" There's another load of crap. This country is filled with hospitals and doctors who treat people every single day. If you need treatment, call a doctor and talk to them. Doctors WANT to help people. Too many people would rather piss and moan and talk to a doctor directly to negotiate payment or barter for services.

Note that the paragraphs in italics are quotes from Taskr36. "They're not the only ones recovering, but a larger percentage of rich people are recovering because they are smart enough to know that getting back to work and fixing their problems works better than crying about the economy. The same techniques that got them rich in the first place help them rebound when things go badly." Well, you may have a point up to a point... there. However, the upheaval is causing difficulty for many older and ill. Wallstreet Bankers aren't in the same catagory as Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. The latter two got rich because they made a product that sold like nobody's business. The bankers who crashed the economy do not create, they buy and sell, often buy and sell things that don't have real value and are outright frauds. Most of these people got off scott free. "I'm pinching pennies right now. You know what most of my meals are? Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Where I live the loaf will cost you closer to $5, unless you can catch a 2 for 1. I generally go for tortillias which are quite a bit cheaper, (and their friends pinto beans) more per pack, and last longer. Potatoes are cheap, and I live out of the crock pot. Keep in mind though that unlike you and I many do not have proper housing to prepare food, or access to stores. Such people are said to live in "Food Deserts" or "tent cities". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_desert 'This country is filled with hospitals and doctors who treat people every single day. If you need treatment, call a doctor and talk to them. Doctors WANT to help people. Too many people would rather piss and moan and talk to a doctor directly to negotiate payment or barter for services.' That is fine if you have a case of the flu, but if you have a complex medical situation like cancer, barter and payment won't get you very far because a million dollars won't fall out of your ahem if you've no health insurance.
