I have a part-time business baking cakes and cupcakes. I don't have a store. I just do it in my kitchen with my reliable oven. Based from my own experience, I just make them delicious every time and add some personal touches. The customers love them and spread the word.

Giving out discount half price for you cake works, distributing your business cards around your community works. Also setting up a facebook page and putting it up in your business so people would see. Example: If you visit my facebook fan page and like it you will recieve a 10% discount from blah blah blah! be creative, get the word around!

Hi! To help promote cakes it would help to have a good potential market such as a school, a church, a gym, anywhere people gather. Do ask if it is all right to do so first and I think it's all right to ask if there are any who are diabetic or those that are watching their weight by choice. Another way to help promote is to have pictures taken so you can show a variety of the cakes that you have done. Have you taken a class for cake decoration? Michaels arts and crafts store sometimes hosts a few so see what you can turn up. Check out some colleges too. Hope it'll work! Best of luck!
