Which do you prefer in-ear headphones or earphones?

I had recently bought a Skullcandy Headphone. I felt it was one of the best headPhones but after a month or so the Earbud starting Causing Problems, wheareas the Apple earphones which i have been using for 2 years have been running very well, But after playing the music with these earphones i actually felt the difference, there was no noise cancellation or the bass was that clear. I felt the Skullcandy in-ear headphones had more Clear sound rather than the normal earphones. What do you think about it ?
