Its hard to say what makes a game retro, though many people see it as the games that are no longer sold at stores like gamestop. Even though there are a lot of different definitions of the phrase 'retro game' , there is something in common with pretty much all them. Many of the games are being brought out as a download on the newest systems, for a fee of course.
I personally prefer playing the original game on the original system when possible, though I know its not always possible especially with me. Do you guys prefer to play the original games? Or do you typically try to get a virtual download of it?
I'm also wondering about what systems or games you liked the most. There are many out there, some with companies that don't even exist anymore. My personal favorite will be the SNES, it was my very first console and had some of the best games. What systems do you guys like? What were your favorite games?

The Nintendo 64 - it was a joy to play! I had the fondest memories of having bad grades from that. In my 5th grade class, we had a grading system based on points, and I lost some for homework because of that! Nevertheless, it was thrilling!
My favorite game to play on the console is Donkey Kong 64, hands down. There are a lot of memorable moments in the game, such as the Krosshair voiceover growling, "Get out!" in that greenhouse in Creepy Castle or one of the temples in Angry Aztec. But the crowning moment of awesome is Lanky Kong, ridding baddies via playing his trombone. That's right - his trombone.
And my favorite game to watch others play on the console is Star Fox 64. That's where the "Do a barrel roll" meme originates!

Ah the Nintendo 64, great choice! I never had many games for it, but DK64 was one of them. Lanky Kong was one of the best characters in the game! Though I don't think any of the characters were very far behind him! I think one of my favorite things I remember from the game far as the characters was Hunky Chunky! That was just fun to say and play as, who wouldn't like playing as a giant ape? Perhaps someone who preferred to play as tiny, haha, she was so awesome. I think my favorite part from the levels though would be the donkey kong arcade game in the break room of the factory.
I have never seen anyone play Star Fox, but I've always heard about it especially with the meme. I've been wanting to get it for the 64 to try sometime though, I think I will eventually.

Well I mean they are generally considered games that aren't from this era in gaming where you have 3d they are games like Doom,Warcraft,C&C and the platformer games. The games that came from a time when people where like the graphics won't get better than this where now it is all about Man this game is awesome what will the next game look like graphics wise. Also Retro games have in general a lot more story or are built to be quick and fun.
I also have seen a lot of indie games and even some mainstream games that are built in a retro style of game play as far as graphics (Minecraft) would be a prime example of a 3d game that is taking the graphics that most retro games have. Indie game developers like to minic some of the older drawing styles. I think Retro Game Drawing has its own market and well people seem to like that style as it reminds them of when they where gaming what it was like. Kinda like the person who likes to go up to the muscle cars before ABS came out for cars.
