How do you imagine a world without religions?

Do you think it would have been better if there were no religions around the world? What if people just decided to be godly instead of religious? Godly in the sense that they believe there is only one God? or that the earth and everything in it, as well as the whole universe was created by a God instead of having all that different beliefs, arguments, interpretation, discrimination over religions and let's not forget the big wars in the past...all because of different religions. Do you think the world would be a better place to live in without religions? Just one factor less with all other realities around us - poverty, greed, racism, and other things that cause conflicts and fights. What's your view on this?

Oh machivado, you are the reason why atheists like to make fun of Christians. Your view of humanity is very sad. I help others and treat others good not because I think I will get rewarded or for fear of punishment, but just because I have morals. Sorry if you don't, but I truly believe that most people don't need someone watching them in order to do right. It is also sad that you think that only a life which is permanent holds any value. I think that life's impermanence is what makes it so precious. I was totally just reminded of this video. lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO9IPoAdct8 Namaste. :)

@writersolutions10 - i imagine it to be less complicated but not more fun. Peace is not guaranteed to be 100% either but i imagine people to be more rational. Thanks for your response. @machivado - please don't be so quick to judge. Not all people who don't have religions don't give a damn about others. I believe in God (with my own concept of what God is, not who) but I'm not religious. That being said I've forgiven a lot of people in my life. Some of them are very religious and who stepped over me like I was nothing compared to them. I do bother giving some to the poor and less fortunate people the best way I can...maybe the same way as religious people do. I don't see it as my ticket to what they call heaven though...or to be saved in the end. I just do it out of my human instinct and I'm not expecting any type of spiritual rewards for it. Bottom life is...I think and do things base on my own concept of what good and right is, not base on a book they call holy.

I treat others kindly because most of the time because of my morality too. If only all people could do that and they don't need specific reason to do that. So, that's why we have law right? Really, sketch, if most people around the world could do that, I would welcome gladly for atheists to laugh at my view because by then, the concept of religion, no, even humanity will change drastically. And make no mistake, I am really looking forward to it.

Hi! I think its better if people lived godly lives instead of being religious. Most religions are full of traditions making people practice more those traditions than developing a deep relationship with God.Religion cannot save your soul, ONLY GOD CAN..:D

@eljajo - i know. I've seen a lot of them within my family. It's sad. @machivado - right or wrong depends on how one base his judgment. We all have our own choices in life with what we think we should believe. How people act around us can create some feelings of distinction...he does this because of this reason...or he doesn't do that because of that reason...and most of us understand that there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

@gicolet - I'm aware of that. But the idea that only God, not religion, or anything can save your soul comes from Christianity so my response was Christianity oriented. Unless, of course eljayo doesn't realize it.

I agree that only God can save our souls, but that doesn't mean we should live the way we want to whenever we want. It's saddening that personal relationship to God is less built than tradition practices, but that doesn't mean that what the tradition is teaching or what tradition makes us do are wrong either.

Religion is the greatest sin ever, in this world! The deaths, hardships, poverty, wars, and racism caused by religion is without number. The world would be a much better place if the Scam of religion had never been introduced into this world. No one alive today can even guess how much wealth religion has Scammed from the poorest, most backward nations of this world.

God wont says that he can only be realized by any of those religions. Really god wont wants human to pray him and dont want to be truthful to god. As we eat for our hunger as same as we living for ourselves.

Nope not trying to get brownie points. Many people complain about oboma trying to get a new world order underway. I tell them i believe in the new world order too. But that it wont be run by any human being. It will ruled by Jesus Christ himself. Rev.5:9,10. With him ruling there will be some taken from the earth to share in ruling over the earth. 20:4-6; Rev.14:1,3; Rev.7:4,9. Many others will be living here on the earth.Ps.72:8; Rev.21:3,4. Isa.9:6,7. Paradise will be restored by that kingdom. Mt.6:9,10; Re.21:3-5. What will it be like? Isa.65:17-25. What a wonderful place that will be. All thses false religions were man created and made divisions and wars. Satan causes that.

hello...i think the world without religion is chaotic. i mean religion gives a sense of direction. no disrespect to each religion made but everyone has his own beliefs..and these beliefs are carried on everyday as they make their endeavor..it becomes a part of their system and without it there would be no peace of mind..i say let's just respect one another regardless of religion...thanx..matsalam..

True, religion gives a sense of direction but it's not the only one direction to wherever. We all have our own minds to think, observe, learn, and use what we learn from something other than religion. People don't go to school, get a job, take care of their families and themselves only because of religion. It's a human nature to accomplish things in life, to make oneself or others happy, and have a peace of mind.

A world where everyone believes that the universe was created by a God is not the same as a world without religion. I don't believe that the world was created by an external being. A world without religions would be great. If there were no religion, we would probably be out exploring space right now instead of killing each other and hating each other.

@_sketch_ - i respect your beliefs. Thanks for your response. @machivado - i could tell that you're a Christian. Is it possible for you to believe in Christ without being in a Christian religion? I'm just curious.

That's a good question. You see, even after I started to believe in Christ, I also have questioned that. I considered that Christianity is way more than a religion. It's a lifestyle. For the sake of discussion, I won't separate Christians (Catholic, Protestants). First, there was only a small community called the first believers and then it grew much lurger under oppression which now we call it church. There are two most vitals in Christianity to be called a religion (as in other religions), first is the doctrinal, second is the community who share the same view (Jesus). The answer is no. I can't separate myself from my community because no matter how much I study about bible, how much I work for others, and how much I pray, I still will always need the others to give me encouragement, to give me support. This answer is also bible based. When Jesus sent his disciples, he sent them two by two, so when one is down, the other could lift him up. But as Christian is being mentioned here, I would like to make a point that Christians believe that salvation can't be worked out by human efforts, that is to do what Christian religion ask you to do, but instead by God's grace in Jesus name.

Once I acknowledged my own conscience as the truth and all there is to it in this life that would make this world in harmony. But once I come to realize how fruitless and groundless that assumption is, I learned again my religion from scratch (doctrinal, aka Bible) just to know how pointless I was back then before I invited God into my life. Now I see there are a lot of people like myself back then who don't really care about the meaning of salvation. Yet, I couldn't take a step further as to faithfully acknowledge the meaning of my life and that after I die, I will be okay. There is no heaven and there is no hell because they serve no purpose. What a leap of faith! And I'm very grateful that I was saved before I take another step into that faith.

My definition for the word religion is; the way prescribed by God that He wants to be worshiped. So there should be only one religion. This way we are all united in worship. I actually think that one day there will be only one religion. I'm actually looking forward to that happening.

I think when Jesus Christ gathered his followers he was forming a certain bond with them back then for which he could express and share his spiritual opinions and knowledge that people now practice and call religion.

I see the exact same effect you mentioned of having religions around. Please don't quick to judge that people who don't go to church have no values in life. You may be surprise how sane, happy, and successful some of them are.

Religions are like diseases. Every day a new religion or god groups are forming worldwide and it spread like new diseases. As belief of god is vast so peoples are interested to believe in new religions to feel those real gods. As diseases are cured by doctors when we are affected as same religions are cured by sense peoples who can compared where we can feel the real god. As everybody claims that their religion is good even atheist and agnostic are living a good life what a religious peoples do.

My father always told me to believe my religion as he claims that my grand grand father is in the same religions. As peoples are not ready to feel their god but they interest to be believed what their forefathers do. But still i had doubts whether my father of father of forefather is my religion. It cant be possible how can we know that.

Hmm.. nice topic. But I actually don't know how to respond. Because there's a question also that pops my mind right now. What if there is no God after all? Would life be so meaningful then? I don't think so. It's because I have known a person who doesn't believe on God. Hmm.. something like skeptical. Anyway, I just realized how life would be when your idea will be possible. Hmm.. I think life will just be as plain or simple. Hmm.. I also don't think faith could be more strengthen. Religions sometimes keep us or reminds our faith to God. Therefore, there will be no reminders anymore. Hmm.. I also think that some people most especially those who want to have a second life, would not be able to do it. It maybe because there will be no religious people would encourage them to change. Am I making sense? I hope you'd understand what I am trying to emphasize..

What if there is no God after all? Depends on your definition of who your God is. We all can create our own Gods, bring our friends to it and it will become a religion. That's what happened centuries ago. That's what started it all. You think life will be plain or simple without religions? Then that would be great isn't it? Who needs a complicated life? You said religions remind us of our faith in God so do you mean without religion you can never recognize yourself with God? Why be dependent on it? Why do you need religion to believe that there is God?

People claiming that god can be realized and feel only by believing in religions. So there are more religions but god should be one. Every religions saying they are better way to realize real god.

Yes I agree religions can make us unite or make wars! In the Philippines alone there is a lot of religion and I hate it because religion use also for political and not for the improvement of humanity. I just wish that God appears on every one of us and lead us to what we should believe praise!

The children of God have much to learn and many lessons to live before what you describe is possible. Mankind will get there in time. Mankind will also outgrow all your other realities as well. It will all end when mankind advances enough in true intelligence. Those who already see, are here to teach those who are blind to it. Guess where that puts you??????? Yes, I can see you hard at work with this discussion.

Well if that was the case, then there's no diversity in this world then, everyone would believe in the same concepts. What a dull world that would be but I can see where you're getting at. Maybe if everyone conformed and simply believed in one God then there wouldn't any wars, discrimination and negative judgements. These days, anyone can practically invent a religion and gain followers, no need to have a religious history or a scared text, just chuck out an idea and then hope you'll gain followers. But if you think about, some religions actually share the same principles and quite similar beliefs so these religions can actually relate to each other. Everyone has the right of freedom so you can believe in anything you want.

I imagine a world that is better. Forgive me for my child like view here but it is the only way I can presently explain this. I try to see this world as God describing a tree for our benefit and then showing mankind results of actions taken. (Adam and Eve) Then withdrawing to create something new and watching brothers make an offering (very first religion) and then watching it go bad. This was not good! That was a long time ago but time does fly and poof we are here. I do not think the men that inacted 911 were religious, if we think of being religious in the sense that men are Godly. I think they were messed up just like one of the 2 brothers of long ago. Can people be Godly if they are associated with religion? I think so but not all religion is correct with God. Mankind makes religion and we make big mistakes. I imagine a world without religions that conflict with each other and religion which does not conflict with God.
