Recently, I read about the news that UN has published a study entitled World Risk Index 2011. This study suggested that Philippines has ranked 3rd as the riskiest country to live in. Factors such as earthquakes, typhoons, and natural calamities were among the basis of this study.
What should do the government do in this matter? What do you think you do help the country?

Well, there's nothing we can do about the geographical location of the country. The best that we can do is improve our system to cope with these natural calamities. The better system we have in predicting and detection of the scope and strength of these calamities, the better we can prepare and lessen its victims as well as damages. Another one is to contribute in the preservation of our natural environment. Illegal mining and illegal logging are one of the causes of flash floods that makes the damages to life and property worse.

Philippines is really one among the riskiest country to live.
We better leave the country before it is shaken with a strong earthquake
The government will surely do nothing but just to wait for the worst to happen.

We can't deny the fact that we're facing the pacific ocean were storm brew, we can't also deny the fact that we're in the ring of fire so earthquakes are not far fetched. But thanks to technology there's already a way to predict weather patterns and ways to determine the movement of trenches so people can prepare in advance and move to other places if necessary. However with poverty and with the increasing number of population, moving to another place is not an easy option. So unless we address poverty, people will always be at the mercy of the elements.

I think it depends on the kind of study how risky a country is.
Some might be because of the earthquakes and typhoons, other because of the high level of criminals. In some studies a country is called to be risky to live in because it's a bad country to be pregnant and raise children in.
I don't think there is much you can do agains earthquakes and typhoons except for leaving the country.
Same with vulcanes etc. Don't go live close to them.
Is that an option? For some it is, for others it isn't.
There are also places where you can't live because there is always problem with high water.
The thing is that the human being doesn't care about mother nature. Human being likes to decide himself where to live. No matter if it's dangerous or not.
Since human being also loves borders, love what is theirs and hate their neigbours it's not easy to leave your country and go live somewhere else.
So the only thing you can do is not caring about all these studies. Since the thing with a study is you expect a certain answer and because you want a certain answer you ask questions which will confirm what you already thought.
You also can be sure of 1 thing: the grass at your neighbour isn't always greener (unless it's fake)
