We suffer neck pain because the muscle of our neck near our spinal column is tense. It is because the muscle in our neck is stretched when we look down for long. You can avoid having neck pain by elevating your computer a little.

I get neck pain too, especially when I am working in my laptop for many hours. I have to stay away from the laptop when I am back home. I carry it along when travelling, and I use it only then. When working on the desktop, I am fine, no problem at all.

It is most probably your neck is getting stiff. You are not moving it much when you use your computer, are you? I too used to get it but when i exercised my neck excessively for a while it disappeared.IT is a bad thing and if you dont give exercise to your neck then you can get other diseases like spondylitis etc which is very common in older people who sits in front of pc all the time.

It is quite common. What is expected is to have better ergonomic seating arrangement for working on computer. If you find a comfortable posture keeping the strain on the neck to the minimum by adjusting the height of chair or the monitor, having the keybord and mouse at comfortable position not creating pain in the arms, you may avoid the undue strain the muscles that cause the neck pain.

you are right, I lowered my chair and also took a leave from the computer for an hour.

I just get butt pain! Seriously, I had my monitor too high, and as I wear bifocal glasses, I was lifting my head up for long periods. Since getting a flat monitor (that now fits on my table) which is much better placed, my neck pain has gone.
