Movie hall or Home theater?

You can watch your favorite movie from the comfort of your room or in the ambiance of a well equipped movie hall. There are merits & demerits in both. From the comfort of your room: Merits:- 1. Relaxed, moving about, at your pace & convenience. 2. Alone or with a homogeneous group 3. Your settings for audio & video Demerits:- 1. No theater effect with ambiance of a big screen & extra sound effects 2. No chance to enjoy big audience reactions Movie hall: Merits:- 1. Getting out to another place away from monotony 2. A different ambiance with larger than life effects 3. Cozy & cushy seats in multiplexes! Demerits:- 1. Restricted movement 2. Crowded and heterogeneous audience you may not like 3. Unfriendly audio & video settings unsuitable for you Have any other points to compare & contrast? I feel it is always better in a movie hall but I hate oftentimes going there. Share your preference and how often do you go to a movie hall.

Yes, there are Merits and Demerits in both. I used to be a movie addict before going to the movie theatres atleast three times a week. I enjoyed that very much, very relaxing and refreshing. But, these days, with my full-time job taking most of the hours each work day, I rarely get the chance to go to the theatres. I just have to enjoy the comfort of my home.

Hello greenline, We sail in the same boat. :) Apart from time constraint, I developed dislike for the associated hassles of going to a movie hall, though I used to be regular at some period of time. Thanks for commenting on this.

I go to a movie hall two or three times per year. I find it difficult to find someone to care for my children whilst I go to the movie hall. One time I took them with me and they found the large screen scary. The seats were of the fold up type. My kids sat down but the seats kept trying to fold up. I had to sit in the middle with a hand on each seat to make sure my kids stayed safe. I think that the adverts go on for too long and can be boring. Sometimes the seat is not comfortable and there can be little leg room. I only go to the movie hall when an excellent movie is going to be shown. I sometimes watch movies in the comfort of my own lounge. Then I just have the movie to see and no adverts. I can sit in my own chair and be comfortable. I can pop into my kitchen to get a drink and some popcorn. The popcorn is much cheaper than at the movie hall. I can watch the movie at the time that suits me like early in the evening and not so late that I have to feel very tired. A couple of weeks ago I saw a movie on television with my kids. It was about a man that got stuck on a desert island. It was an exciting adventure.

I prefer watching at home since I don't like crowds. It is more convenient and comfortable watching at home alone or with kids. No problem with the sounds, having a home theater, the sound effect is same like inside a movie theater. And having a big LED screen is fine with me. And I can pause the movie if ever I want to use the bathroom. have a good day

Hi jaiho, I too don't feel comfortable with very crowded places. True, you almost get the theater effects through today's audio visual systems. Thanks for your comment.

Those are all good points and I would definitely go with watching a movie at home if I could. I often download films on my computer as well and watch them off of there. I love to watch a movie alone. I just saw an early screening a few weeks back of 50/50 and there was this obnoxious women who was sooo loud behind us, and I saw the last Harry Potter and there were people behind me the whole time making a crazy amount of noise eating, the whole time... louder than the film. Finally someone told them to shush towards the end of the film. I like to mix it up and go to the theater occasionally, but I would easily choose watching a movie at home over the theater.

Hi, I'm sorry I took a bit too long to acknowledge that I enjoyed reading your comment. What a bad experience it was, with all the noise preventing you from enjoying the movie! Thanks again.

I love watching films in my own room because it keeps me more focused. In that case I can understand the movie well. It is in this manner wherein it keeps me alive, because when I'm watching a movie and I cannot it, I tend to be sleepy.

I prefer home theater. Cause sometimes its too crowded and too noisy at movie hall. At home, I could probably watch it over and over again. I can paused for a while to pee or get some food to each hehe.

I would rather wait till the movie comes out on DVD and watch it at home because it's cheaper and you can pause it when you have to go to the bathroom or to the kitchen to get food or drink.Might,I add the food is cheaper too! But,once and awhile I like to get out of the house sometimes and go to a theatre and see a movie. It costs more thou.

So, lot of good reasons to watch it at home. Rightly so, I think.I haven't been to a movie hall in a long time. Though expensive, it holds a charm of its own, as you say. Thanks for joining.

You missed out people talking all through the film and getting your butt kicked constantly by the kid behind you! I'll watch at home, thanks!
