Ok, Union supporters, justify this!

It started when a local talk radio host (Mark Belling, WISN, Milwaukee) exposed a situation at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where a school administrator "retired", then just a short time later, in the same position. Now Tom Maki is collecting BOTH paycheck and pension for doing the job from which he supposedly retired. State laws does allow for the rehiring of retired workers, but there can be no deals cut prior to the retirement, and the position has to be posted publicly. In other words, in order to be rehired, the retired person has to compete for the job. But in the case of Maki, there are emails proving that the deal was set, even before he announced his retirement. Once this story broke, there have been other examples of the same kind of deal going on all over the state. Almost all of them in either the UW system, or public schools. This should irk the cookies of union supporters and opponents equally. How many union members are being denied these positions just because the person "retiring" and their buddies are playing these games? How many taxpayer dollars are wasted almost double paying for the same position? Of course, the word from the left is, "so what" at best, and at worst, the actions are defended. Sorry, but there is no defending this fraud. If you do, then well.. you're just as crooked as these criminals.

Heya, Though I don't understand the specifics, not being from your country I can certainly sense the sinister designs those people make & how they gratify themselves. At the expense of other more needy/deserving candidates. The phenomenon seems universal. It is to be detested tooth & nail. Come on, there can not be blatant misuse for self aggrandizement depriving those hundreds of aspirants. Without notifying position if some one is stealthily enjoying double whammy, people have to give it to him I'm hoping I'm not off the mark!

Nope, sounds like you have a pretty good grasp of the sinister situation.

They really should publicize how many and where these frauds occurred. Although I don't know a whole lot about the Wisconsin Teacher Union debate, I've definitely heard a lot of negative things about it. It's hard to know who to side with though, since there's too much mudslinging going on on both sides. We need clearly delineated facts!

Well, each of these is documented fact. So far, every argument I've heard from the Union side to recall Gov. Walker has been either blatant lies or based on lies. They have lost every argument they have made to the people of Wisconsin. The fact is, the corrupt and crimes of the public unions in Wisconsin are finally being exposed.

The whole purpose of the early retirement was so that younger pwople could move into the entry level jobs because as people retired they would be replaced with people being promoted not to be rehired. Unions should be upset ecept that they have many members who retire and are rehired as either full or part time positions. I know of a person who was a prison guard and retired and is a Police Officer in a small community both in the State retirement plan so he is being paid and drawing a pension, while the local Tech College has graduates in Law Enforcement who can not find a job.

I have a hard time believing that left-wing people could just stand for this. Liberal Canadians certainly wouldn't. Although Liberals here tend to be slightly "collectivist" in that they do believe in collecting taxes to redistribute wealth for the good of all, they would never believe that it could be for "the good of all" to have one person fraudulently collecting a double paycheque. Well, the politicians could, if it was one of their buddies doing it, I suppose, but the average Liberal voter would be pretty ticked to hear about something like that.

And yet here in Wisconsin, the left is poised to try to recall the governor to make sure things like this can continue to happen.
