..... I never use short words here at myLot. On the contrary if you will see me on facebook then you might not see even a single full word. There I only use sorter versions of talking like short messenger service(sms) type words. One benifit from using complete words is that it clarifies every thing and lookscdescent. I wish myLot never allow short sms kind of language here.

Most of the time I use full words on both sites. I don't understand all of the short terms and hate having to always ask people what they mean. Like you said using full words can eliminate misunderstanding what you are saying.

Short words have their own beauty. Its how younger generation think all the time. I could also not understood it earlier but now I am pretty confident in it. On the other hand, on myLot one needs to have a proper discussion which is not possile without discipline!

myLot is definitely not for youngsters. Here mostly I have seen people with experience. This is the place for mature people. Hence, no place for small words!

I use some of the short words if I am in a hurry. Using the full words helps to keep the mind sharp. With getting older, it keeps the spelling of words fresh in ones minds. Both ways of using words are good.

Hi sanuanu! When cellphones were made people used to type or write in a shorter way. I love it before and gotten use to it. But as I grew older, I realized it doesnt make sense because I became dumb with spelling. When in high school, I noticed myself to be good in spelling but when cellphones and SMS became popular, I began to realized myself thinking for a second how some words will be spelled correctly. So I agree witt you on that.... typing or writing a complete word makes sense and wont create confusion with people who actually are not good in words.

Hi enelym001, Thank you for sharing you thoughts here. I totally agree with you that we will loose our control over our spelling if we use sms language for more than often but there is a we save time and it gives you a modern look also. Its a yonger generation's language!

Same happened with me! I used to be real good and proficient in spelling but when short text/sms and cellphones got famous, I got a bit stupid in spelling (I can't even spell "receive" correctly at that time!). Nowadays, I still use short messages and chat speak but seldom use them when replying in emails and myLot. I use LOL and OMG and other acronyms but other than that, I still post my reply in full straight English :D

We should write with whole words when responding or creating topic here in mylot. Not everyone knows how to read messages like mobile phone SMS where words are being use with short terms. So,it is a must to write the whole word/text. have a good day

Yes, I agree with you because here we have people from different countries, different culture and not only this but also we are not chatting one on one but it is done in a group of people. Hence no small words, little annoying on phone though.

Hi, Sanuanu, I'm glad that there are people like you. Sometimes we need this short way of writing - when we are in a hurry or when we are typing SMS. But if this becomes a habit people began to forget the correct spelling of the words. I think that this is a serious problem all around the world. I appreciate the efforts of myLotters to use a good and clear language. I wish all the best to you.

English isa global language but if change the way of using it then become engms language, mixture of english and sms. Hence, isn't a global language.

I commonly use short words (chat speak, sms talk, acronyms, shortcut typing, whatever you call it) only when I send sms messages. For me typing in short words also have an advantage especially if you are "on the go" and need to reply on something via mobile. But I never use them when replying in emails and here in myLot. Well, I do use acronyms such as LOL, OMG, etc but mos of the time, I type in full, straight English. Using short words all the time also have an disadvantage like making a person poor in spelling. Short words are OK but they should be used not be used in almost everything.

People who use short words on pc are those who are not good in typing. Hence they find it difficult to write words, minimum keystrokes is their mantra. I strongly believe that at myLot, everybody is preety good at typing, are you?

LOL~ I can honestly say that I'm pretty good in typing :D Personally, I think it's best for one to type in full words rather than in short ones, especially when posting in forums and creating blogs. There are some blogs which also uses "txt speak" and it bothers me the most :P

Though mylot doesn't have a rule disallowing that, I think people won't be too comfortable with short sms type of words. If you want to be understood and you want your message to go through, I don't think you would do that. And yes, i agree, it's just too informal and we are discussing here with people from all over the world. NObody wants to be misunderstood.

I was just thinking about this and saw your discussion, telepathy?? well, your point is good and relates to the present generation. My fb friend used ND in one of the posts. It took me five minutes to understand that it meant AND. I dont why people use capital and small letters in alternates to post and somtimes the smileys are also hard to understand because I belong to the older generation. SMS languages were adopted to reduce the cost but now every service offers free sms and still children write in scripts. The funny thing is tha they ubderstand and respond to the 'scripts' sms, but cannot comprehnd history lessons.

Yes could be telepathy. Most of the time I think about discussions when I am alone. This time I thought of starting of discussion in life but suddenly after choosing 'life' as an interest, I thought of this and started it. I forgot that I needed to change the interest part!

Also a problem of all these short words is that many people, especially teenagers are not able to write normal words anymore. Personally I find it annoying to read, although I do understand it can be a case of money too if you only use short words. You can say more in one sms. I also try to write as less short words as possible.

That is why it is called sms language!, isn't it? 200 characters per sms requires words to be small. Even in chat also people use it because they are not good in typing. I don't prefer small words on Ims because I love typing but if Iam doing it from my phone then I will use smallers.

In some case, you can not use the shorted word to show your idea, especially for official. But i think the shorter words also have the good points. It will save your time and you can catch up your mind faster when you use it. In mylot, I think it is not nesecery to not allow using shorter words because here, everyone just share their thinks, knowledge, questions.. not to do a report.

Hi, you have given a valid point. Short words saves time and it catches the mind quickly. It is more modern isn't it? myLot has to maintain its discipline. People here are more interested in sharing the knowledge. Thanks for sharing your thoght here. Hope to see you more on my discussion!

Well, I agree to you a little bit, I use short talking sometimes. But it isn't fun if you don't know what people mean when they say, LOL and OMG.. and all more there is. I don't like to use it all the time and I don't like when other people says it all the time, cause some people does. regards oliver
