Protecting eyes from computer eye strain

I think a lot of people, like me spend long hours working on the computer. It causes severe eye strain and many disorders. I had learnt a few relaxation techniques which I try to use regularly, like cold water splash several times a day, gazing at regular intervals into green, and palming exercises. What are the problems you face and how do you counter them? Do you have any useful resources to share? Here's one link that gives a lot of useful information. Lets hear from you too.

I try to sit in the dark if I am behind my computer. No problem since I can type with 10 fingers (blind). I heard it's better for your eyes to work behind your computer this way. I also very frequently wear sunglasses. Might sound funny but I do. I have very easily infected eyes might have to do with my allergies as well. So this way I won't rub in them and the light from the screen is not that irritation. Have to admit this works the best if you only have to write and there is no need to see the colours of pictures very clear. The only other pain I have is in my neck (so I can't sit long behind my computer) and in 1 leg (right one). So in between I have to hop on and off my chair and do something else.

That's right. Neck pain is another serious problem to contend with. Sorry about missing the link I mentioned in the post; here it is: http://www.visionworks.com/computereyestrain.htm Once I hit start, there's no way to edit unless by responding to a comment. :D

I find if I just have a rest fro mthe keyboard and go and do something else, make a cuppa tea or do some chores then my eyes are rested and I can come back and have another sitting at the pc. This works ok for the rest of my body as it gets a very good strech as well.

Taking a break often & walking away is a good practice for minimizing eye strain. Thanks
