Prime-Time Soap

Australia

My friend Bill will be disappointed, but unfortunately I can do nothing about that. After watching three episodes, my partner and I have come to the conclusion that, quite apart from being cast from the soap actors' unemployed pool, the show itself is nothing more than formula prime-time soap in a vaguely sci-fi setting. TERRA NOVA will not be on our watch list anymore. Disappointing. 1.5* Lash

Ah yes, I am disappointed to hear this Lash. But not overly surprised. I too was a bit disappointed by last weeks episode in particular. I did not feel that it was that great. From what I have seen on set and been involved in, I am assuming that the series gets better. There is definitely a lot more action coming up and some more interesting story lines. I can tell you that! I would suggest to give it more time, if only so that you can see me in later episodes! But that is up to you guys. I will not pressure you into watching it. Although it is only a two hour drive to your place, so I could come and tie you into a chair in front of it each Sunday night!

I'm the only one who ties people up in this house!!! Let us know when your episodes are coming up and we'll have a look. It's not so bad that we won't watch it, just not good enough to entice us to anticipate it. Lash

No worries. I would feel the same way about it if I were not involved. There is a run down on the episodes at the link below. The first time I worked on the show was Episode 6 where the colony has it's first murder to solve. http://www.terranovatv.net/episodes/

Does this mean your friend Bill is watching tv at your place and he is not able to see that soap anymore? Or does this mean you two can't discus the soap together anymore? Do you have a watch list? At this moment I can't say there are programms I like to watch. There is nothing I would put the television on for. Too much commercials in between (every 15 min or so) makes watching television very less relaxing.

grandpa_lash, I just cannot help feeling disappointed with the show and wonder how it actually made it to our televisions in the first place. For one, I cannot help wondering if the writer is stone age mentally, that is when the story time setting is somewhere in the year 2149 with the characters so much behind with technology and most of all, crucial database. The production is just a total misfit to me. No offense to any Terra Nova fans here.

The show is ok up to a point but the adds ruin what hope the show has. The add breaks are so long I forget what was happening and that is making it impossible for me to have any chance of enjoying watching it. Reminds me of why I avoid watching commercial tv as much as possible. It is a channel full of adds with the occasional bit of tv in between the add fests.

The adds are one of the reasons that we do not watch commercial tv much. We prefer dvd's. I thought they used to have regulations on how many adds you could put into a show but it does not seem to apply any more.
