i think in football we always believe that Germany alwayws produce and create a good goalkeeper, from Bodo Iegner(world cup 90 and become a winner), and then Andres Koepke (world cup 98 and euro cup 96), Oliver Kahn and jens Lehman and now Manuel Neuer.. what about another country?? italy for me always produce a good defender..example?? from Franco Baressi, Cannavaro, Maldini, Costacurta,Nesta, Chiellini, Zambrotta... argentina is gifted with a great forward, from Maradonna, Kempes, Cannigia, batistuta, crespo, and now tevez, higuain, messi and aguerro... what is your opinion??

I think Germany has been at the forefront of producing world class goalkeepers. The other country that has given some great goalkeepers recently is Spain. We have Iker Cassilas, Pepe Reina and Victor Valdes who are all great goalkeepers. In fact, it is really a shame that a goalkeeper like Valdes who according to me is one of the best goalkeepers in the world cannot find a place in the Spanish National side. Cheers! Ram

I think there are two aspects to it. Definitely Casillas is the best goalkeeper in Spain currently. But even apart from that Del Bosque has been a manager at Real Madrid so he has a great rapport with Casillas as well. Cheers! Ram

England used to produce great goalkeepers, Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton, David Seaman. In recent years, they have been replaced by duds like Scott Carson, Robert Green and Paul Robinson. Italy is famed for the defensive solidness. As for present times, I can't think of any country producing a chain of great defenders. Spain is now the leading country in producing great midfielders. Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Xabi, Silva, Pedro, Thiago, and the list goes on. I agree with you on the striker department. And of course, this topic ain't complete without mentioning the kings of samba, Brazil.

Germany has always had great goalies, that is fact. Not only starting from the 90's, but earlier also, Sepp Maier is a great example which comes to my mind. Italy has always produced great defenders and goalies also, but also deadly strikers, just think at Baggio,Vieri, Inzaghi, del Piero, Toni and I know that they have had great strikers earlier also, but I cannot remember their names. Spain, Holland, France or Brazil have also produced many great midfielders and strikers, just like Argentina. I guess it has a lot to do with the mentality of a country, because Italy and Germany were focused on defense, so they have put bases on defending building, rather than other countries, who like offensive style. Nowadays, every country tries to create good players, no matter the position, because a successful team needs great players on every position, with great team spirit.

Yes, modern football has evolved so much that the positions can change a lot during a game, because of different factors. I can see that midfielders are very flexible nowadays.

Yes, i agree. Different countries often produced great footballers of different positions. Where goalkeeper is concerning, spain has done a good job as well. Ilker casillas has been the donning the national colors since he was 18 or 20, till now. That goes to show how good he is, and even those reserves, Victor bas, Jose Reina, to David de gea, they are all great goalkeepers whom didn't get much chance to play.

yes, cassilas i think the good example for spain because from his generation become an example for the next generation for becoming a good goalkeeper after his generation.. now spain did not worry because after pep reina, valdez and casillas retired, de gea will show his ability and helps spain national team for getting a glory again..

It is true that Germany has many good goalkeepers. I think it is the similar with other countries. But it seems that in Brazil there are less famous goalkeepers. As most people just want to be the soccer player rather than being a goalkeeper. As a soccer player can be much more famous and have a better income. I love China

I am not very much into soccer but in the last five to six years I have only heard of Oliver Kahn. Apart from him there are Casilus, a keepar from republic of chzeck or Fabian barthez are also good aren't they. A keepar from Brazil in 1994 wc was also good, wasn't he?
