I received money in my bank account, but who sent it?

Today, I checked my bank account and little bit amused to see that I have received two NEFT payments. Though it was little amount, it seems like Paypal's verification transactions. (I am already verified with paypal) The transaction says 'Global Remittance'. It's really confusing, because the money received is very meagre, as if sent by Paypal. But, when I logged into paypal, there was no mention about it. It shows 'verified'. I haven't given my bank account to anyone else than Paypal. It's really confusing. Who could it be? Paypal? (the amount is very meagre that it's not sent by any individual.)

I again checked my previous paypal transaction now. My previous paypal transaction showed 'Papal Private Limited' in the remarks. But here it shows 'Global Remittance'. So, it's clear that paypal didn't send the money.

Well lucky you to have an accidental amount given straight to your bank account. Maybe it was a human error or computer error that transfer the fund through your account. Wishing that somehow this will happen to me also.

I say keep an eye on your account and if this happens again notify your bank and have your account frozen til the problem is found.

Don't take this lightly. If you have no idea what/who triggered this transaction, then you need to investigate immediately. I'm not saying it's identity theft, but who knows?? There's a lot of things going on these days. If someone somewhere somehow got a hold of your bank info, then all they need to do is have those small deposits made to verify that it's their account, and then when you're not even expecting it they could have the authority to wipe your account clean. Don't wait check it out asap!

Yeah. May be. I changed my login password and my profile password immediately, although usually I don't maintain huge amounts in those accounts enabled with internet banking. I'm going to verify this with the bank soon.

A pleasant day to you Venkataraman_vc, Regarding your confusion as to who sent you the money, perhaps, try to dig out the transaction from your bank. As in, try to do some research as to where that deposit came from - is it deposited thru bank to bank transaction, or from an individual depositor going to your account. You can check it with your bank since you are holding an account with them. Try to request an investigation from them then ask a report for them to submit unto you. It is better to know as early as possible where that deposit came from rather than waiting for somebody to tell where that deposit really came from.

It was bank to bank online transaction. It shows as NEFT from Citibank with remarks "Global Remittance"

Don't get yourself bothered by the small amount of money. Maybe it is from the God.LOL. Or you can donate it to the charity groups if you can't get over.

I dont think it is a mistake from any one . Try to remember some transaction you made in last couple of weeks. It might have canceled and reverted back . Mistake from paypal is unthinkable. If so , then you are lucky and you can expect more money to flow in . Al the best.

What I suspect is someone might have done a typing mistake when they add bank details to their paypal account. So, the verification amount has come to my account, instead of theirs. This is what I can guess. (However, the chances are very less. The person has to give the IFS code of the bank. Unless the person gives my bank's IFS code and my account, this would not happen. I wonder whether a person can make a mistake in IFS code and account number. And exactly matching my bank details can just be magical coincidence.)

I think you are lucky, but you should be more careful, because you did not know who did that ? As you say that you never share or give your account number to someone or another person. You must coordinate with your bank, so they can help you tracing the source of the money came from. Hope you would get lucky again, oke

When the member of PAYPAL gives their bank details, they will send a small token money to check the transaction, like 2 cents or 3 cents. Once we got this money we have to log in to PAYPAL and confirm received the moneys. There after any daily balance will be automatically transferred to the given bank account. Once that is transferred, the paypal balance would show a - account. Like when we have 20 $ and it would be converted to INR (Indian Rupee) and + value in your bank pass book and - value in the paypal account summary.

I have done this verification process long back. At that time paypal has notified me about the two payments, both via email and while logging in. But this time, it seems like I received money from paypal, but there is neither notification in my email nor in my paypal account. Actually this is what confusing. (My paypal status shows 'Verified') I guess somebody might have done a typing mistake while adding bank details to their paypal account. (Incidentally he/she happens to be from the same branch otherwise this NEFT won't go through.)
