I have an almost 16 month old son that is starting to express interest in using the potty. He knows what to do but we need a potty for him. My question is at what age did you start potty training your son or daughter (or whatever the family relationship may be to the child)? My son shoud be pretty easy to train, but what are some things you did with a boy to help them with the process?

My nephew began potty training right after he started walking. I think it's good to potty train as soon as possible so that you wouldn't have to spend more on those diapers! I think how they did it was for him to mimic how my brother did it. He considered my brother (his dad) his hero, and would mimic everything he does, so whenever his dad would go to the bin, his mom would tell him that is the right thing to do. He didn't even go through the potty trainer (those potties for toddlers) he went directly to the toilet bowl. I think he thought that his potty trainer (which looks like a toy) was something he didn't want to mess up with in the first place. So, there, I don't really know how to do it, it's perhaps a bond between parents and kids hehehehe... Well good luck 'bonding' with you son! Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

I was potty trained at nine months, but I don't think that is normal. It seems like the average age is your son's age. Funny story: when I was six months I would cry at night and my mom could not figure out why. Finally, remembering a story my grandmother had told her about her own childhood, my mom picked me up, took my diaper off, and held me over the toilet seat. Then, I went to the bathroom. Isn't that funny? But my mom said she got tired of getting up in the night to hold me over the toilet, so she just let me cry until I'd finally go in my diaper. lol

Hi, I definitely had no trouble in training my daughter, but with son, had some trouble initially, then it was my husband who helped me in this. We were able to train to use the regular toilet fitted with a baby seat when he was able to sit by himself and supported by my husband to some extent say in about 1 years time. Then he slowly came out of using that seat when he was about 3. All you need is a lot of patience.
