Australia beat South Africa by 93 runs with the help of D/L method..

The big series started in a wet condition. The match was spoiled by rain.this was the first ODI in Australia tour to SA. Australia scored 183runs for 4 wickets in 29 overs and the target for SA was 223 by D/L method. South Africa was all out for 129 runs in 22 overs. Ponting scored a half century (63 runs) and became the man of the match.

I thought that SA was in strong position, this was a chasable score. hope that they will come back strongly and beat Aus in coming matches.

ya SA had an upper hand initially, but they lost it in mid way. it may be because of the rain's impact.

I actually thought that South Africa had the upper hand when the rains cleared out. At that stage Australia had consumed 19 of their 29 overs and had only around 90 odd runs on board. But the aussies played brilliantly after that to post a score of 180+ which was boosted by messrs. Duckworth and Lewis to around 223. Chasing that SA made a real mess of it after starting quite decently. All in all a good win for Australia. Cheers! Ram

ya Aus scored lot in last 10 overs, till that point SA was very much in the match. Rain rule also helped aussies. but South African batting was below average, that was a bit disappointing.
