hair extensions....

I just got to thinking - what exactly is the purpose of hair extensions? Doesn't your hair grow eventually anyway? Is this more of an option people use when their hair literally DOESN'T grow, or do you use it for special occasions? I understand maybe adding extra hair for volume or fullness, but I'd really think twice about cutting off my hair if I figured down the road shortly I'd want it back. I've never had short hair.

Hello mommyboo, There are different types of extensions I dont know which one you're talking about but they have the clip on extensions, the sew on extensions and the glue on extensions, none of which you need to cut your hair for btw. Most women use clip on extensions, and they use it for various reasons. Like you said for special occasions, they are also used for a quick hair duo you know you just attach it on and you're ready to go. Some people have short hair and want some length and attach to the back of there hairs. I've used them before because they are quick and easy it takes me less than 5 minutes to put it on and my hair looks cute, people think I got my hair done at the sylon.

How expensive are they? For the purpose of this posting, I was only talking about permanently attached extensions, which people who have had them got due to their hair being too short and they didn't want to wait while it was growing out. I just wish there was a way to make my hair permanently thicker lol.

Hi mommyboo, I have never had any hair extensions either. I don't want anything more that I have to take care of. What I have is enough. I really think they (the ones that do) use the to add more volume to their hair. And some just do it to keep up with the fashion. Whatever the case, I don't knock it I just don't try it.

The clip-in ones might be a nice idea, I don't think I would do any glued ones because the idea of having to be careful washing and brushing my hair would be a nightmare. It IS a nice idea to add color to an outfit if you don't want to actually put color in your hair though!

For some people, Hair extensions is just for fashion, But for other people hair extensions are very essential to their daily life, like those who are losing their hair because of Cancer and such. This can help build up their confident and they wont feel ugly. That's why I wouldn't say that hair extensions are pointless. Because they can actually help some people.

I read an earlier post that described using hair extensions to fill in patches or when someone is losing their hair. I never had considered that because the only reason I've seen people actually use them is to add length during growout or for a special occasion.

I looked into getting hair extensions when my hair wouldn't grow any longer. I found out hair extensions only last about three months. I think therefore they would be a waste of money. I had short hair at 14 years old for a while. I let it grow back fairly long. My hair goes down my back to my bra strap. I wish my hair would grow much longer and be in superb condition. Some people use clip in hair extensions for special occasions and this seems more sensible to me. Then it will add fullness and look like it has far more volume.

I think some clip-in ones to add volume would be an excellent idea. My hair seems to do fine when I use a large barrel curling iron but I've been running ragged lately and not even doing my hair lol. I have a certain point where the length gets to be too much for the lack of thickness - I don't let mine get much longer than past my bra strap. I have some long layers in it so it really looks better when I take the few extra minutes to dry and style it, but I can get away with just spraying product to keep it from frizzing.

Well there are some people who do struggle with hair growth, and some people who prefer medium length hair but ultimately need the extra length for a special occasion... ie. Wedding, acting job, modeling, going out on a date to make themselves look 'okay,' graduation pictures, etc. There's many kind of hair extensions out there for all sorts of purposes. Some people have some thinning hair so it's not that easy for them yunno? My hair is long, but if I wanted a different color for underneath my hair (undertones), I'd get some red extensions or some random color. I get some clip ons when I'm on stage rocking out if I wanted rather than going through the fuss to get some bleach to streak my hair then dye it again with some manic panic hair dye. -_- Plus I tried growing my hair out a number of times but I wake up find out I'm losing some hair. So I gotta encourage the growth and strengthen the roots by cutting it un-noticably... You seen the guys who cut their hair every month! Their hair grows fast if they stop cutting their hair in 3 months. Girl, you are just blessed to be one of the many people who can grow their hair out - you've very lucky. But to the others out there who cannot achieve this type of thickness with their hair: http://short-bobhairstyles.com/wp-content/uploads/bridal-hairstyles2.jpg - I'm with you with the extensions thing. n_n;;

My hair is long... it's not thick. The funny thing is... if it were thick, I might actually cut it shorter and try a stacked bob. I would never chance that with thin hair though, ugh! My daughter has a friend with REALLY thick hair, and her stacked bob is so cute. This girl probably has 3-4 times as much hair as I do though lol.

These are usually wore by celebrities, but I don't think it is suitable for ordinary people to wear it. Anyway I'd rather recommend a hair clip along with a strands of synthetic hair in it. It is easy to use all by your self.

Ones that are weaved/glued into your hair are pretty expensive. I don't think I could handle dealing with them since you can't just wash and condition your hair and style it, you have to make sure you don't pull them out or tangle and twist them up, and I'm sure hot stylers might melt where they are attached and make them fall out lol. Then to add to that, some hair colors are hard to match, especially if you have a natural color that is hard to match, or highlights that are starting to fade.

Oh this is usually for those who have already had their hair cut and realized they want to sport a longer one. but sometimes it is the color of the extension that they want. :D

Hairs adds your personality . Anyway who wants to bald or with patches in between your hairs. When you attend a party , the feeling of not having a great hair will make one inferior to others. to avoid this people try hair extensions. For some it may look great but for some it will be a worst fitting . those should avoid the same .

I keep my hair very short as you can see so I have no idea why you would want to extend it out. However, perhaps it is to allow it to grow. Like when my hair starts growing out it has that awkward in-between stage that I cannot handle. Maybe extensions would be useful to get through such an uncomfortable stage!

Ah.. you could be right. Since I've never had short hair, I've never had hair at that 'inbetween' stage where it is hard to style.

I love watching beauty make over and America's next model and similar shows on television. I gather that hair extension is something knitted in your real hair to create a longer hair. Sometimes these are trimmed to the desire hair length but it creates a longer and straighter hair. This is the secret of celebrities why their hair seems to grow long overnight.

I have hair extensions. My hair got damaged because I processed it so much, so I have them until my natural hair grows out. Most women just use them temporarily until their natural hair grows back. Of course hair eventually grows...Key word eventually! Sometimes women just want something to help them look presentable while their own hair takes it's time growing out.

mommyboo ..Some get hair extensions when they want to go from short to long in a short period of time..That is what Kate Gosselin did I would have to have a really compelling reason to spend that much time in a chair having my hair done...

hi:) I have a clip on hair extensions, I'm using that if I'm attending a night party, just to add some volume to my hair, well I don't have a thin hair, just that it looks nice if it have volume.

flowerfest08...I had a manager who would go out clubbing after work. She went into the bathroom with 'normal hair' and came out with full beautiful hair..it is amazing how much clip in extensions can add!!

Hair extension I think is being used by people who want and instant long hair. I know many celebrities have undergone this because they need them for their role in a movie or soap opera. If the role calls them to have long hair then they undergo hair extension. They don't need to wait for months to grow their hair longer for if they do, then they might just lose the chance to play the role. This is mostly done by women. Hair implant is another thing. It is implanting new hair on the scalp and mostly done by bald people and those who have thin hairline. This is mostly done by men who almost always have the tendency to go bald.

I think girls that use it spends way too much money. Older women were fine when extentions didn't exist. They are tired of short hair and they wamt a long faster, that's why they use it.
