Can someone advise me on an issue?

I have been getting calls about some credit card thing that I am not interested in. Most of the time it is a recorded message, and as soon as they say a name and that they are with credit card services, I hang up. Every once in awhile they will have an actual individual call me, and twice I’ve told them that I don’t know what they are about, but I am not interested. They just keep calling. I’ve had at least 15 – 20 of these calls in the past month and it’s really getting irritating. Any ideas on how to stop this? One night they called at 8:40 P.M., and I was already in bed watching TV. Thanks in advance for any help. C. C.

Well, maybe you should just call the company that's calling you. Tell them that you're not interested with their offer. Tell them about your problem and concerns.

But I have called the number that has come up on my ID and (get this) I get a recording saying it is a "non-working" number - how does that get set up, I wonder.

some people simply unplug their phone. u probably face this issue with home phones. i can think of two solutions. 1. use the national do not call list. i believe many countries have this list so telemarketers know which household are not interested in offers. i dont find that this is effective as i have signd up to the list and i still get calls. i find a really effective way is the second solution. 2. use a cell phone. i have a cell phone and i have a blocking feature. for some reason, it is harder for telemarketers to target cell phone users so that's the way to go. once u get a cell phone, u can prevent these calls by either blocking them and u will have a smaller chance of receiving unwanted calls.

I have a cell phone, but because I am 71 and handicapped I have to keep my regular phone. Thanks for your suggestions.

You might need to tell your phone company to block those marketing calls, and I remember while I still with my landline, I got million of those calls per week, and it just irritate me. Afterward, I cancel my landline, not because of those irritating calls, I had better deal on phone service with VOIP. Those calls are stop, and never bother me again.

If you get anymore of these calls answer politely and when they start their spill ask them if you could please speak to their supervisor. Thats gonna scare the crap out of the person calling but they sincerely have no way of assisting you. When you get to the supervisor as they are walking around the cubicles (I worked customer service many years) tell the supervisor that if she does not take your number off the list, you are going to report them to the Better Business Bureau. It works like a charm. Also if you don't want to go through that mess and know the number (if you have caller id) just don't answer it. Call your phone company too there may be a way to block that number off your phone Good luck in this. I know poor customer service reps are just trying to make a living but what they do is 3 shifts a day. so if you don't get to talk to someone live and don't answer your number goes back in the ring to recall until someone talks to you. Yep know how it works!

Thanks. I've had several times with other situations where I've asked to speak to a supervisor, and they want to know what is the nature of my request, and sometimes stall you hoping you'll get mad and just hang up. And then it takes an act of congress (almost) to even get through all of the automated garbage, just to speak toa real live person! Boy - whatever happened to good old fashioned customer service, and speaking with someone that can bot speak and understand what you're talking about

Hello ClassyCat, These days, the telecom regulatory authorities are [supposedly] taking serious note of such unsolicited marketing calls and have formulated policies & systems which can protect consumers being harassed. Every service provider is required to make available & facilitate customers record in what is called as 'Do Not Disturb Register'. You may find them on their web site. If you register, you will get a reference number which you may use to report violation. This is the system prevalent in my country [India]. But then, many people do not bother to register. Even if they do, they do not take the time or bother to pursue their complaint. Service providers continue doing what they do on an assumption of customer apathy. I suggest you check out & take the first step of registering for DND register. Hope this helps.

You cannot stop this credit card offers, these agents are very persistent. You know what, you can have the credit card and then spend all the credit limits and don't pay it. Anyways, there is no imposed law with regard to this matter. So in short you won't sued by the authority if you don't pay your bills. That's the benefits of being a Filipino. hahahaha!
