I am not fond of watching korean series but my wife is. There are dubbed korean series here in the Philippines and sometimes we get into arguement whether the actress is who my wife thinks she is. For example, in the series Cinderella step sister, my wife says that the female protagonist was Sandara Park of 2NE1, which I don't agree of. Another protagonist in the series entitled My Fair Lady was thought to be Hani Oh of Playful kiss. Do you easily recognize these Korean actress or like my wife, you're confusing them for someone else?

I notice that people tend to mix up individuals of another race. I never had this problem before until I studied in a school where most of my classmates were Filipino (I'm a Chinese). I had a hard time remembering some of their faces and I tend to mix them up. Now, I don't have this problem anymore. When it comes to Korean, Chinese, or Japanese, I rarely have any problem recognizing them. But when I watch movies where the story is set in the olden days and where the actors had to wear costumes, I find myself having a hard time telling them apart (e.g. movies with Samurai, movies with characters wearing uniforms).

I guess I just got used to my Filipino classmates. It takes time and practice.:) But in my first day, I was really very confused. I was seeing similar faces all at once! I could recognize some classmates with striking features though (braces, pointed nose, huge eyes). With Chinese people, I can even distinguish Mainlanders from Filipino-Chinese. You're right about stereotyping. I can't tell white people apart. And also people from the Middle East. They all look so alike. Funny thing is, even if I had a hard time recognizing Filipinos before, I had no problem spotting Filipinos when I see one in other countries.

I work with Koreans so therefore my knowledge of Korean show business is quite better than many. As far as I know the star of My Fair Lady is Yoon Eun Hye who is also the female lead in the dramas Princess Hours and Coffee Prince. As for Cinderella Step Sister, I don't know the actress in that show but I think I can say it's not Sandara because so far the only drama Sandara participated in in Korea is the Return of Ilji-mae where she played a ninja. My boyfriend and I watch Korean movies sometimes, and he often tells me that this or that actress was in this or that movie and oftentimes he gets it wrong. There are stars that are easily recognizable to him such as Jeon Ji Hyun of My Sassy Girl---he'd spot her anywhere, any time! But the others he often gets mixed up. Add to that the fact that Korean names are quite hard to remember for many.

Right! Their names doesn't make sense even for an asian like me. lol. Nice to hear it from someone with so much experience with this subject. Are you also seeing Koreans on a regular basis? As for me, I used to teach English to Korean students here in the Philippines and some of them are using the English translation of their names so it will be much easier to comprehend.

I teach English to Koreans online. I've been doing so for the last five years. The names were confusing and hard to remember at first, say, I would call a student named Seung Chul as Chung Seul, but now I'm better. Learning about Korean Pop and show business is essential for me to reach out to the young students. I also have more knowledge of current events in Korea than here because these are the things I discuss with adult students. When it comes to Koreans being look-alikes, well I guess it takes some getting used to. I can tell apart these Korean celebrities rather easily.

I am not interested in Korean TV series. I think the reason why the actresses look alike probably because of they have the plastic surgery. As you know, the plastic surgery is famous and common in Korea. And many actresses want to have a plastic surgery so that they look prettier and this is a way to be famous. And the beauty judgment is similar. This is why they want the same type of eyes, cheek bones, nose and so on. This is why they seem to come from the same mould and they don't have something special and unique. I love China

I love watching Korean dramas. I easily recognize which Korean actresses are which though. Yun Eun Hye...she's the girl from Princess hours, Coffee Prince and My fair lady. And Moon Geum, I first saw her in Endless love, then Love Me not, Cinderella's Sister, and no she's in Marry Me marry. I only recognize the really famous ones though, some supporting actors look similar to each other.

Great! Your comment further proves that I'm right in saying that it wasn't Sandara Park and Hani Oh in those series. :) Yes I agree that even some of the actors look similar with each other.

Hi stuckonu! Koreans really do look similar to each other and there are those who will be difficult to tell who is who. I can't remember which actresses I am confusing to each other and can't remember the dramas they've appeared but I remember searching in the internet about them just to know who was who. There are even guys who look similar to me. But I don't bother remembering who is who because I'm not much into Korean dramas anymore. ^^ Oh, I've seen Cinderella stepsister because my mother watched it before and I am sure that the female protagonist there is not Sandara Park. I think Dara has not yet appeared in any Korean drama.

I don't but my daughter can. She's very fond of this Korean actors and actresses ans she can even tell who's who. She's taking an elective course in Korean language in her university that's why she's a bit familiar with these brother Asian. If you ask me if I can figure who's who among them, you'll get a big head shake!

I seldom recognize a face no matter if it's an famous actor or just someone. Although I would recognize Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson and Jack Nicholson. The problem is that to me many people look alike. Especially blond/white people. Also I must say that many Americans look exactly the same to me no matter if they are male or female. I am not a great observer if it comes to the recognize the face of someone. Sometimes the face does look familiar to me and if I really want to know who it is I will go look for it and check it out (or ask my daughter she always seems to know). A part about your story I don't understand. Are the koreans play a whole serie or movie with their own actors?

Those actresses that have many series are easily recognizable. I can easily recognize them. But those that I haven't seen before, I don't recognize them. I don't mistake them for someone else. Maybe you're wife is just confused with the faces because some of them really looks alike.
