Why we must be Born Again?

are there any reason's why must be born again? my born again Christian friend told me that it is written even in the Roman Catholic Bible that we all must be born again, and i immediately forgot to where is the exact passages in the holy bible but there is.....

Must we be born again as a human or something else? To be honest i wouldn't wanna be born again. I just want to make most of this life that I have and that is it. But I know I am not the one to decide. But who knows what might happen. :)

based on what i newly learned, it is our spirit must be born again and not the body and mind... because our spirit is changeable and must be change.... that is all i know....

mantis36 I don't take the Bible literally because that just doesn't seem right to me. So I think being 'born again' can have more than one interpretation and still be what God intended.
