I have already had enough of my procrastination to become a vegetarian or at least semi-vegetarian where I can still have fish or chicken occasionally. I believe it will do me much good to address some health problems that I am having now. While it is not too late. Ignorance is definitely not an excuse. Yesterday, I bought my veggies for my salad. I know organic's way better but its not available where I live. The ones sold are better than none. I also bought Caesar Salad dressing and was so excited the try it today. When I read the label though, I found out that the very ingredients I needed to eliminate from my diet were ALL THERE! This will be the last time that I will use this dressing and replace it with lemon, olive oil and honey. Have you ever tried some stuffs thinking they'd do you good or are harmless, and realized otherwise?

Good move!!! I havent eaten pork for 30 years. Mainly because it gives me problems. Beef i havent eaten for 15 years. At one time i was total vegan. But there was aco-worker that explained to me about omega3 which i in sea food. So i re-introduced seafoods. And later chicken was re-included. Anyway vegetarians can eat seafood and chicken. You have to becareful about dressing too. Even the oil and vinager type. It puts alot of fat into you. Recently instaed of lettuce i make my salads out of spinish and fresh veggies. With a verity of fresh veggies i find i dont even need dressing. So many ways to make salads too. You can add fresh fruit and/or nuts. Small amounts of cheese is ok but also adds a lot of fats. Good health to you!!!

wow! Last time I ate meat was this afternoon due to some unavoidable circumstances (a lunch with a friend who served nothing but pork). Yours will serve as an inspiration.

Oh I am sorry to hear that. So far, I have not built a certain reaction to meat since it's been days yet. I probably will also experience what my vegetarian uncle feels after eating meat. Accdg to him, he feels flu like symptoms the day after eating meat so he's totally eliminated meat from his diet. He's been vegetarian for 4 years now I think, and hates meat already.

I think you've generalized on the Caesar salad dressing. I'm sure that there are other dressings out there that don't have the ingredients that you're trying to avoid. You just need to try out other 'stuff'. It might not taste as good as a Caesar's, but I'm sure it's still healthy. Goodluck!

I really need to explore more options. Caesars just tastes to great with the greens, it saddens me to have to let go of it. Oh well....

Since I like nearly all veggies and prefer only a taste of meat to go with them, I seldom bother to read the labels. I just eat what I want.

A balanced diet, especially with more veggies and fruits in it, is still fine. As for me, I need to reduce my craving for meat as it is really not going to make me any healthier.

any things you think are healthy for you are not, once you start to read the labels it can be a surprise. I make my own salad dressing and keep it in the frig. It's a good base and if I want a special dressing I just add a little blue cheese or yougurt to make a cream dressing.

I wanted to eliminate all sorts of dairy products but for starters I could gradually, not instantly, remove it in my diet. Besides, I am aware that those two you mentioned are one of the healthier types.

Sad on how anything that really tastes great is usually not good for us. I have been reading lables each time I shop as I do eat healthy and sometimes as you lean it after I have purchased something. I have been creating my own vinaigrette as well as they are much more healthy and less fattening that way.

Yes, I learned that you can do your own homemade dressings as a healthier option. I hope you can share some good ideas to me. I don't think I can live with the same old veggie combinations and same old dressing. It just might bore me out and make me fall back to my old unhealthy diet

Isn't it so surprising how foods that appear to be healthy can actually be extremely unhealthy for us? I used to always order caesar salads until I realized how unhealthy they were! They have more calories than a cheeseburger meal at more places! How insane is that?! I give you kudos for going into the vegetarian lifestyle. It's not something I could do, I love meat too much. However, for those who maintain it, the results and benefits are great! Good luck to you!

I need all the encouragement, reinforcement, support, and luck I could get. Shifting from a meat lover to a vegetarian is like trying to feed lettuce to a tiger!

I love ceasar salad dressing. It just has so much fat! And the lite version always tastes funny. That's what I hate about salad dressing. I'll have the lettuce, tomatoes and other healthy stuff, but the stuff that makes it all taste good - the dressing - is bad for me.

Yeah, just too bad cause, it was the only thing that made all the veggies a lot easier to swallow. Lite dressing is fine, but it only cuts some of the fat, and salt maybe. There are other unhealthy stuffs in it so I would probably consume the last few contents and go for healthier dressing.

pretty much my rule of thumb is that if it tastes good, it probably isn't that good for ya...

Even though restaurant meals are not generally healthy, one or two a week probably won't do you any harm. A healthy life style is to grow your vegetables, and cook your own meals. As a rule, store bought prepared foods contain unhealthy additives to preserve shelf life or to enhance flavor. It is quite unbelievable that in this 21 century, food companies are allowed to sell food products designed to help their bottom line, while jeopardizing the health of their own customers.

I realize that I should also put extra effort on growing my own produce. I just don't seem to have that skill. Probably now I should learn how to do it.

I can only guess that I may be suffering from hormonal imbalances and that usually isn't something to just be very lax about. What I read sometimes do scare me. It could lead to infertility and since I am dreaming of becoming a mom someday, I must do something while it's early. Being a vegetarian is a good step towards good health. Even without disease, it is still best to adopt a good diet and lifestyle, so I'm taking such step. We also have strong cancer lineage that's why I am worried.
