Do You Enjoy When You Discard the Old and Replace with New?

I have noticed people like to wear new clothes, new shoes, buy new house and new cars. That is almost a universal phenomenon. However, I have noticed I do not enjoy the new clothes/things for god knows what fear. Let me tell you an incident - once a family member gifted me an expensive branded shirt. I kept it aside thinking I will wear it on some important occasion like a job interview or on any other formal occasion. But then I completely forgot about it. Several years later, I discovered the shirt still intact. Only I had over grown the shirt. It had no use for me. I have a nice pair of adidas shoes that I have been wearing for years and the shoes are still in fine shape. I don't feel like discarding it because it is serving the purpose well. Should I or Should I not? I bought another pair of nice shoes but they are still waiting to be worn because I can't get myself to discard the old shoes? Is it something unique to me or there are others who feel the same way? Is it a psychological abnormality? My close relatives (mother/wife/father...) keep on advising me to wear decent clothes, to look smart and so on, while I feel quite comfortable the way I am and feel quite suffocated in expensive clothings or in using expensive lotions and creams (except perhaps expensive amway Shampoo). It is not that I am a penny pincher. I can almost spend any amount on good food in a good restaurant as if there is no tomorrow, but when it comes to any other thing than food, I have no interest, inclination or desire to use or consume even if given for free. What kind of syndrome is that? Can anyone here help me?

I think you are one of those who first fill in their inner self needs. You can emotional about things around you and your emotion about them overcomes the need to let some go. I thin if you are happy with the way you are, then let it be it. If you're not happy anymore, then it's the time to change!

Dear EdnaReyes, You've opened my eyes to something about me - that I am one of those who first fill in their inner self needs. Yes, I am not emotional about things around me. Once I didn't find my car in the parking lot so I thought my car was stolen. I came back home, and others were surprised why was I so cool when my car was stolen. I didn't feel panicky, I didn't even feel like lodging a complaint to the police. I might not have even gone looking for it a second time unless pushed by my wife and forced to. Several hours later, I went looking for my car again and it was there parked in the parking slot, only I was looking for my car in the wrong slot earlier.

It's a rare affliction called intelligence. You don't need all of the new things in life. The only reason that new things are really attractive is due to the fact that they are in fact new. When you tend and peal back the layers of all of the latest trends, there really is not much that sets them apart. Especially given that people have been deluded into thinking that they need those things to live a successful life. However, it is a fool's game, you'll never get ahead, you'll always be throwing money down, as trends tend to go as fast as the speed of light. I think that I really cannot pay much attention to the way things have been set up a lot of the time. There are just many times where I think that people feel, "you have to have this". No, you don't have to do anything. If you think its great for you, then great, but don't be fooled by the hive mind mentality of society. There are too many times where people are going to really buy things that their hearts are not truthfully into because of the popularity. So much wasting money its disgusted.

Hello truthisgod. I don't believe that it's a syndrome. When you make a choice or do the things that you feel would serve your purpose, then you're okay. It does not matter what others say, not even family. As long as you are true to yourself, there's nothing to worry about. Personally, I choose to give away anything that someone could use, rather than keep something that I do not need. There are things around here that are "old" but which I can still use and others with sentimental value, I opt to keep these. For me, it depends on the situation. Like you, when it comes to food, I give it first priority. You have nothing to worry about, truthisgod. You are a sensible person, please stay that way. God bless you, my friend.
