Rain bringing back memories...sad ones...

Most days, I love the rain. But not today. Rain is pouring like crazy outside and an old song pops into mind: "Rain gently falls whenever we say goodnight Falling like when you're out of sight Rain follows me even in my bed And rain is the tears that I shed..." And then, I was reminded of that time that the song was popular. I was in the 6th grade then. I had a bestfriend who was my classmate that year. We sat together in class and were at the back of the class, so we were close because we had the opportunity to talk all the time. It was the middle of the rainy season, and we were having a bad, really bad storm. One night, the storm really got crazy and during that night, I lost my bestfriend. There was a landslide and their house got devastated. She, her mom and a younger sister perished. Her dad, twin sister and an adopted baby brother survived. She was carrying the baby brother that time and used her body to shield him from the debris that hit them. That was about 20 years ago, and I don't know why this rain and that song just made me remember and sadness just reared its ugly head again. I guess that life is just like that. Sad things happen, you accept them, you move on. But, at times, the memories just come flooding back. Have you experienced that, too? Are there things in the past that you think you've forgotten that come back out of the blue? How do you deal with it?

Yes, that's right. We do move on, but, somehow something will remind us of the past. I just hope that you will no longer hurt the next time a song reminds you of the past.

The rain brings me a lot of memories sometimes I remember a love that didn't love me. Sometimes it remembers me a storm that almost destroyed my house when I was a child. Sometimes it remembers me all the time that I had to stay in the rain waiting for the bus and not bus came until the rain end. And it remembers me when a river overcame and killed like a lot people of my neighbor country Haiti, it was so sad. It is a very sad story what the rain made you remember, and good that she saved the life of the baby brother, she was a hero.

That's right. Rain could be romantic, too! I also love the rain. That's why I was surprised that it brought a sad memory yesterday. But, I'm better now because last night, I also remembered the good times when she was still alive. And that meant I relived childhood again, which is always a fun thing for me.

Sometimes a certain smell or a certain sound will bring back a memory suddenly. Some of them are good and some of them are bad, but even the good ones carry a certain sadness because they're gone. Dealing with them sometimes only means going on with life. One night as we were in bed, there came a knock on the door and for some reason, I knew what it was. My brother was in Viet Nam and he had been killed. I can still feel the shock and taste the coffee my husband gave me. The smell of coffee and a knock on the door has brought that back to me. Sometimes I take the time to cry all over again. It's the only way through it.

Thank you. Yes, it was during the war and it was a long time ago. He was just a kid, barely 18. It doesn't matter how long ago it was, that memory will always be sharp. I'll have to remember that phrase, "episodic scent."

My friend (who has a degree in Psychology) told me that around 10 years ago, and I still remember it. And, everytime somebody says, oh this scent reminds me of someone or something, I say, it's called episodic scent. I'm so sorry to hear that. He was so young. Promising life snuffed out just like that. Yes, he may be gone, but I know he will always live on in your hearts.

Hello Glory! Yes on occasion I have a walk down bad memory lane. It does make me blue, sad and depressed. I do at times weep and get it out of my system. I have to find strength at times to try hard to forget about them. I am not perfect so I can tend to swell on them for a bit. Once I get through the sad moment I then remember why it is in the past so I do not cause them to interrupt the future. Feel better my friend and remember it was 20 years ago and something you do not want around for another minute.

Hi there! I feel better now. It was just unexpected how I had remembered that time I lost a very dear, bestfriend. It started sad, but, last night, I also came to remember the good times (well, the rain had stopped by nighttime). And, yes, I know that the sad memory will pop up once in a while, but I know that there are also good memories with it.

It does not have to only be the rain that can bring back bad memories. Anything can trigger those memories. I have lots of memories, sad ones and happy ones. I have been going through hard times lately and anything seems to trigger my sad memories. But, don't let it get you down, try to concentrate on the positive things.

That's right. A lot of things remind us of sad memories. Even little things could trigger memories. I'm sorry to hear you're going through a hard time and getting reminded of sad memories. I sincerely hope you would have better days ahead. Lucky for me, that night, I tried remembering the good memories when she was still alive, and that meant reliving my childhood, and somehow, everything became alright.

Well I am happy to hear that the good memory made you feel better. I know I will get through what I am going through somehow. And I know that one day things will be better. But right now it just seems real hard. Thank you for your concern. I will okay.

Hi Bhaby! You're not letting up on that, are you? Soon, I guess. Somehow, we will run out of "busy-ness", won't we? Yes, rainy days do remind us of a lot of sad memories. And, I don't know why a lot of sad things happen during rainy season. I am better now, thanks, that night, I tried remembering the good times with my friend, and it made me feel better reliving childhood and knowing that she's at peace now and that one day I'll see her again in the afterlife.
