In the thrashing of the season, Man Utd. were beaten by Man City by 6-1. This is the worst defeat that Sir Alex has endured in his career with Man Utd. Part of the blame for the huge defeat was the poor performance by the entire Man Utd defense with Evans getting sent off and Rio and Evra having a forgettable match. For quite some time, Rio has not been playing great at the center of defense. Evra has been doing fine while attacking, but in defense he has been equally poor. So is it time for Sir Alex to renew his defense team? Cheers! Ram

There are always two reasons a D stops working . Either they don't have the personal Or they Are talented but they Are not listening to the coach. So Sir Alex has figure it out. But I think from what you told me , it is personnel. Now the 64,000 question. Is there a trade they can do to get more D? Or do they have to wait?

I think in this case it is the age catching up with these players. Rio has got much slower than his younger days so responds slowly. Evra is still fast, but his stamina is reducing, so he cannot trudge back into the positions quick enough after his forward forays. Regarding transfers or trades, there are usually two windows in a season when teams can do that. One is in the period from July to August and the other is in the January transfer window which lasts the whole month of Jan. So yes Sir Alex can go shopping during these periods. Cheers! Ram

For Evra, this is just an one-off incident. He still has in, I felt. As for Ferdinand, I have posted in some forum before, he seem to have lost it after his constant injuries problem. As for renewing his defense, Fergie has the next line of defenders already in place. Rafael as right back, Smalling and Jones, the central pairing. Ok, he will need to find a replacement for Evra soon.

Currently Smalling plays in the right back and I have not seen him play in the center. Coming to the Da Silva brothers, somehow I do not feel they are good enough to hold down a place for long. On Evra, yes I agree that he has been better in the last few games, but I do see that he is labored coming back after attacking forays these days. Maybe he will last this season, but not the next season as per my assessment. Cheers! Ram

I can't say for sure, because their defense seems great before they were beaten by Man City.. I think it is not wise for Sir Alex to renew his defense team just because a defeat. Well, it's a major defeat, but still ....

I think Rio has been a bit weak for quite some time now. On the other hand, Evra is good going forward, but is unable to cover back these days. Of course, Vidic is still very high quality and a leader on the pitch. If he does not play, then they tend to suffer!! Cheers! Ram
