Halloween on Saturday?

United States

I was just watching the news. Apparantly, a congressman has put a bill before congress to change halloween to the last Saturday of October. Who really cares about what day halloween falls on other then children? Don't you think congress has bigger problems to deal with such as the economy. No wonder they are always waiting until last minute to pass bills that will help society. What are your thoughts about halloween on a Saturday and congress worrying about such petty things?

Yes it is petty to be concerned about a holiday as opposed to dealing with the more crucial issues. I mean really not everyone is off on the weekends, there are people who do have off during the week, but yet work during the weekends. Hopefully they catered this thought to ALL people but apparently they are only thinking of themselves once again. See they do not work on weekends so ya think they were thinking of others? lol

You would humbly accept it but I think our current officials expect it. But they would want the chocolate too. If we could figure out how to get our officials to stop trying to figure out how they would benefit and worry about society. We would be living in a better place. I won't hold my breath and I recommend you do the same. Thank for responding.

While I do think that there are plenty of things that are far more important than what day of the week Halloween falls on, I do think that it is a good idea to always have Trick or Treat fall on a Saturday. The reason that I feel that way is because of the fact that children don't have to go to school on Sunday. This means that a child's usual routine is not going to be thrown off because of the fact that they are trick or treating on a school night.

I believe the reason why the Congressman is worried about it is because that would mean at least one working day and in most cases two working days. So if you move it to Saturday which is usually off, so it really does not affect the number of working days. So I guess that is where the Congress comes into the picture on this one. :) But you are right in the current economic climate, there are much more things for Congress to worry about. Cheers! Ram

Yes, I just wish they would be more concerned with our economic downfall and how to get out of it. Too many homeless, jobless people with families. Thanks for responding!

I definitely do not think that Congress should be worrying about things like this. I think that the local governments are perfectly capable of handling the situation if there is a problem with the date that Halloween falls on. I believe that there are much larger problems that face us, and those are the things that Congress should be focused on.

But PA they are focusing on what is better for them. I don't think they work on Saturdays, so changing the date would suit them.

Suit them, I'm sure no pun was intended. I think local government is a good solution to such a minor issue. Maybe this would entice congress to work on the major issues. But something tells me they would find something else minor to worry about and then act like they did great things while they were in office. Thanks for responding.
