I grew up being forced to watch All my Children and Guiding light. But the definition of soap operas sure has changed. My mom and grandma watched these things because the drama was interesting. Today's soaps have become a bit closer to reality, Jersey Shore, The Real Housewives...Reality tv has hit and all time high. I can't even fathom watching a soap opera where they are reading corny lines and poorly acting out fake drama. But when it's real, when these people are acting as themselves, in their own lives I think it's so much more interesting. When the drama is real it seems that much more intense. I know that these shows are also edited and cut in ways that make them appear different than they really happened, but it's still closer to real then soaps of 20 years ago.
If 20 years ago the soaps and shows were about real people, if reality tv started back then, do you think more people would of watched soaps? What is your favorite reality tv show? soap opera like or not.

I see. There are a lot of interesting ones here. A lot of shows seem to be changing people's outlook on life. Like Homemakeover and What would you do. You can watch all these shows online too. :) I love it when a show can bring tears to my eyes and these two do that.

I live in America...in Kansas. It is a great show. The people seem very deserving of the houses. And they help lots of charities. It makes me cry almost every time.

I don't watch soap operas and really hate reality TV which makes stars out of people with no real talent of follow people I don't care to know about. The shows start out cheap because they are easy to film and some of the people are cheaper to pay than real stars. Some of the 'stars' just use it as an excuse to promote themselves. Why should be trashy or drunk or stupid make someone rich and famous?

Do you like REAL reality tv like cooking competitions, or any type of game shows, history, learning etc. I just figured out there are kinda two types of reality tv. The modified edited show about people we don't care about and then those ones that are really real.

I don't care for soap operas or reality TV. I would much rather watch TLC, The Food Network or The History Channel. I am very selective when it comes to my TV viewing. I don't think more people would have watched reality TV if it had existed twenty years ago.
