Yuck! I went to the doctors today to get a check up after having a cold only to find out that pink eye. Now I know it is contagious and common among kids, but what else do i need to know?
i have gotten drops and read on the net that it should be gone in about 48 hours (yay!) and i have been washing my hands a ton as well!

It's often highly contagious period!
Sanitize door handles, the phone, everything!
I had it and light bothered my eyes but I have other problems anyway. So it would be the other problems with my eyes. Mine lasted longer than that, but my immune system is compromised.

Two years ago I had pink eye, and I was working in a pre school so one of my little boy felt bad one day, the next day he didn't go and took like one week for him to come, when I called they told he had pink eye, so I was the next, it two 9 days for me to go back to work the almost all the teachers got he pink eye and most of the students in the school, in my class all of them got it,and my son too, so it is very contagious.
Be careful and take friend.

Ugh, that stinks, do you work with children? I think I have heard where teachers have also gotten pink eye because they are around children a lot.
You have your drops and washing your hands, that's great, keep it up..Another thing is use disposable tissues to wipe any discharge from your eye and flush it, that will prevent more contamination. If you live with someone who can help you, or maybe set it out so you can do it yourself, but I remember with my kids, when they woke up the next day, their eyes would literally be glued shut from the discharge, so I would get up before them, wet a washcloth with warm water and gently clean their eye(s) until they could open them. *Note, if you do use a washcloth, wash it separately in how water to kill any germs

I had contracted the pink eye last year, and it was not fun to have. What I learned is that there is two forms of the pink eye: Bacterial and viral. Both are serious and are contracted two different ways. I believe the viral is highly contagious. I had the bacterial form, which was the side effect of the flu. I was that sick. No matter how you contracted this, it is wise to clean and disinfect everything while at home. If you got the drops from the doctor, schedule a follow up to make sure that it has cleared up. And no matter how badly your job wants you to come in to work, don't go. My job wanted me to come in and I refused.

Pink eye or conjunctivitis is the redness and inflammation of the conjunctiva, membranes covering the white part of the eye and the membranes in the inner part of the eyelids. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, allergies, irritants and other diseases. You didn't mention what type of pink eye you are having. However, as you mentioned that it was precede by cold,I presumed that it is viral.Viral conjunctivitis is highly contagious, so you should be careful on your eye discharges and avoid crowds, so you can avoid the spread of infection.Viral conjunctivitis are self limiting, so it it will be completely cured without treatments in 2 to 3 weeks.
If you have bacterial conjunctivitis then you need antibiotics for it's treatment. Moreover, allergic conjunctivitis needs other treatments.

The first time in my life i catch pink eye,it was a terrible.I went to the doctor an i get a eye drop for it,but still it was painful.
make sure to Sanitize the stuff that you use,it is contagious.when i catch mine, the other day my son did get pink eye we both have to wear dark shades so that others around us did not catch it.
I use salt water to watch my eyes in the morning an then,I use my drops an within a few days it was all gone.no more swell eyes.

Sorry to hear that you have pink eye. Make sure you stay home and keep washing your hands. You can use a warm washcloth on your eye to help with the pain and to clean it out. Make sure that you don't re-use your towels, washcloths, sheets and pillow cases while you have pink eye. Wash those things in hot water after each use. Hope you feel better soon.

Pink eye is only contagious for 24 hours after you began the eye drops, if you are careful not to touch your eye and then touch anything else without washing well first those around you will be fine. For some reason my oldest son has a tendancy to develop pink eye at least once a year and as long as we follow this rule no one in the house becomes infected. Hope you are feeling better soon.
