Should Nuclear Energy be used? Why don't we go for improving riskless energy?

Nuclear energy is one of the fastest growing energy source, developing and developed countries are more concerned about its development because it doesn't release the green house gasses. now my question is that despite there being many problems like 1)Radiation accidents 2)waste disposal 3)and the danger caused by the fuel itself..( there might be many others which i might have missed) why is that all are for developing nuclear plants? why can't they develop the efficiency of Solar, hydro, tidal, wind energies? why can't they think on improving the thermal power stations which provides the maximum energy need for almost all countries around the globe.

Hi Welcome to mylot! Maybe those countries you have seen with this nuclear plants are not on ring of fire where many earthquake occurs, so having it built there is a safer place to have it. But besides that it also impose great danger when there is radiation leak on the plants which is very dangerous on lives of many people like on Chernobyl incident. Maybe there is now going inventions that could harness more energy or 100% out of sunlight and wind and when this come out hope it will be fully implemented on every country so that it will fully contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases. Enjoy your stay here.

@ceasar: you have rightly said more over i feel that the advantages are more than the disadvantages.. the disadvantages that u mentioned a while ago can be minimised and can be reduced fully if that is well taken care of.

India which has nuclear power olants is an earthquake prone area Washington is having more number of earthquakes reported.. These countries still top in the nuclear power production

I think Nuclear Energy should always be avoided as it has so many adverse effects in case there is any leakage from the plant and you know that such leakage may arise due to man made faults as well as natural disaster which we have already witnessed in Japan. So I think instead of Nuclear Energy, we should try for other sources of energy and I personally believe that use of solar energy is the ultimate solution of energy crisis in future.

Scientific advancements are two sided thing... if you have some benefits then you will too have adverse effects in them.... so never mind what ever may be the source, a safe, judicious, wise use of it will never end up in a problem

Nuclear energy has a large number of problems attached with it. I think small countries with small population can afford to give up nuclear energy as they can feed there population with other source but countries like india, china, america are large countries with large population. There needs cant be fulfilled with wind or solar energy as they are expensive and produce fuel on a smaller scale. So these countries need nuclear energy which produce energy on a large scale. Moreover, besides some accidents nuclear energy is very safe if necessary precautions are taken.

Hi, Welcome to mylot! I think you are right. We should focus on other energy sources that aren't harmful to human and environment. We should manufacture more solar panels than build nuclear plants.Solar power is better than nuclear power because if there are errors no one will be hurt.It is better than nuclear power. If there are operation error or disasters in nuclear power plants, many may die. We should really focus on other alternative power sources.

as i have started the discussion let me bat for both sides..now let me tell u why we don't use solar energy to nuclear.. the fission of one atom of Uranium produces 202MeV. for developing so much huge energy there must be solar panels for over 1000 sq.km. and hence this is preffered.

these problems can be minimised when taken care of... the advantages of this is very huge....
