TEA Party groups are suing cities for discrimination...

I was going to add a link to this post, but when I did a search about it, I learned that there are many cities being threatened with lawsuits by their local TEA party groups. Why? When TEA party events are organized, the organizing group applies for permits, pays all fees, doesn't start setting up until the time they scheduled, and vacates the area by the end of the scheduled time. They also take care of things like garbage, toilet facilities and other basic human needs. On the other hand, when the Occupy movement "occupies" an area, they act like "occupiers". Most don't bother with permits. Although I will admit that some do, none honor the terms of the permit. They set up whenever they feel like it, and once they are there, they all but dare the city to forcibly remove them... and they won't leave otherwise. They refuse to pay fees, they make little to no accommodation for basic garbage or toilet facilities, and heaven help any cop or city official who actually expects any of this of them. This is blatant discrimination. Not only because the Occupiers are allowed to shirk the law, they are pretty much EXPECTED to.

I was just about to post this, but you beat me to it. That's not all though. In many areas the Tea Parties were required to have million dollar insurance policies. In some areas, where even now OWS protesters are setting up tent cities, Tea Parties were refused permits. http://radio.foxnews.com//toddstarnes/daily-dispatch/cities-treating-ows-better-than-tea-party.html

Yup, these are definitively examples of the institutionalized discrimination the left claims to be against.

now maybe the OWS can sue mother nature for sending the rain, snow, wind and cold to NYC. Let them stay in their tests and protest the weather.

Tea parties had their rallies, and applied for permits, some denied. The occupiers are peacefully protesting, and exercising their right to freely assemble. They have had some permits denied, but their constitutional amendment trumps all.

It's disgusting at how this is okay and it's very one sided, I hope the OWS people just give it up and go home, they're a bad example, if not the worst example of protesters ever.

They won't give up and go home. Why should they when the government is so quick to discriminate on their behalf?

Ladybug, the fact that occupiers "occupy" public property and refuse to allow access to anyone not associated with their movement, they are just as elitist as the "1%" the want us to hate. Also, if they attack police officers, then the cops are authorized and within their authority to use force. Quit acting like all the occupiers are just innocent victims who can do no wrong.

The government has authorized police to throw tear gas at them, hit them with batons, drag them by their hair. Wake up. These OWS people won't go home. Would you have said the same thing to Martin Luther King?

Ladybug, you're blatant hypocrisy and lies are being proven for all to see. The cities being sued expressed support for the Occupy movement and opposition to the TEA parties. Get your head out of your butt and breath real air once in a while.

I have heard about it, on progressive sites. This isn't some silly Glenn Beck rally. These are protests. The truest kind of protest their could be. Many protesters have applied for permits and have been denied them or denied their extensions. Many have also offerred to pay for portapotties and garbage dumpsters, and also denied. Leave it up to the tea partiers to waste even more tax payers money with frivolous lawsuits.

It is no wonder that obama is all about supporting the occupy movement. Their program and activities lines up closely with the activities of a 'community organizer'. Both obama's talents are in full swing these days: as a community organizer and as a campaigner. He is also making history as the worst president ever, regardless of skin color.

I think when we get to the bottom of it, Obama and ACORN will be there.

Yeah I heard about this. They are suing several cities for $10,000 something dollars in some cases for the fees associated with it. The local tea party is doing the same thing. As they should because this is discrimination by the Police and Cities in this case.

Ladybug, since when do people throwing bottles and rocks at others qualify as "peaceful"?

I would think the peaceful protesters should be suing for police misconduct.

The occupiers are protesting. They are not holding an event.

The tea parties were protests as well. The only difference is that they respected the law and followed the rules and regulations of each city, state, and town.

Here is a link to the AP Story http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/va-tea-party-city-favors-occupy-protesters-14827155 They are right to sue. The Mayor of Richmond, Dwight Clinton Jones (D) stated that "he is a product of the Civil Rights Movement and will allow the OWS to continue." The TEA Party spokesperson went on to say that they had to hire police, Medical Personal, carry Liability Insurance, provide portable toilets and even have a defibrillator on site. http://www.bellinghamherald.com/2011/10/27/2246159/va-tea-party-says-city-favors.html It seems clear to me that the protesters now want confrontations with the police and will push the issue.
