14 Hours of Sleep

I talked about just having three hours of sleep on Monday night and how incredibly tired and weak I felt. On Friday afternoon, I took a nap at 4pm. I mean to get up at 6pm to fix my dinner but when my alarm went off I just turned it off and continued sleeping. At 10pm I received a phone call then I got up for a few minutes just to use the bathroom, drink a glass of water, and put some food on the hungry cats' bowls. I woke up at 6AM Saturday morning so it means I slept for fourteen hours. Lack of sleep is bad but they say oversleeping is bad, too. I guess I was just trying to make up for the lost hours. I am suddenly reminded of the story of Rip Van Winkle which I studied in high school. He slept for twenty years. Have you ever slept as long as I did?

@Rosa I guess you were just tired. But I wonder, what's the longest number of hours you slept CONTINUOUSLY ? In your story there were at least two hours of intervals between your periods of sleep. @Steelux I've slept 12 hours as well, continuously. Unlike you though, I find it easy to slip bank into sleep even after getting up to have a drink or use the loo.

I can't sleep that lomg, I've slept 12 hours at maximum, no more than that. When I wake up it's very hard to sleep again.

I think that sleep is one of the most important things in our lives, as it means that our bodies have the time that they need in order to recover from anything that might have happened during the course of the previous day. If we miss out on a certain amount of sleep one night, it also makes sense that our body feels the need to recover that sleep the next night. You should feel a lot better after 14 hours of sleep, and you should find that you are now ready to face the day ahead with bright eyes and a positive attitude to succeed.

That is true. I suffered lack of sleep Monday evening and the whole week I felt tired. I only had the chance to make up for the lost hours on Friday afternoon and it seemed as if my body tried to get all the rest it could.

Yes I have also experienced as you where I was lacking so much sleep and no matter how much I just wanted to nap for a few hours my body and mind would not allow it and I completely slept that long. The body like anything else in life does have a tendency to shut down and not function no matter how much we push it. So it is best to not be sleepless for too long as even though I have caught up with the sleep, it still leaves me out of energy and no willing to do anything that day.

Did you also sleep for 14 hours as much as I did? You're right, I also did not feel like doing anything. In fact, on Saturday I just spend my day curled up in bed reading a book, and I even took an afternoon nap. My body was craving for rest. The next day, Sunday, I started tiring myself again as I turned the house upside down and cleaned everything!

How was the result of the exam? I hope all good. I'm a teacher and I tell my students to NOT stay awake studying but instead get enough sleep in the days before their exams. They are Koreans and they have this sort of saying that if you sleep for five hours, you'll never get into a good university. They sleep less than five and I tell them to go get at least eight hours. No use studying so much when on the day of the exam you're all groggy. It must've been hard to take an exam being sleepless for 2 days. Well, it worked for you. But I don't think it will work for everyone. After being sleepless for two days, I can understand why you fell asleep for 20 hours!
