Hello fellow mylotters. Last week I attended a car auction. I have been looking for a car because mine is about ready to give it's last breath, so before winter I wanted to get another vehicle. I got a couple of folks together and away we went a couple of Saturdays ago. This gorgeous looking car comes rolling in, and they begin the bidding. It went down to $1,200.00, so I bid. 2002 Dodge Intrepid. I won the bid after it went up a bit. It is a green light car, so it is not supposed to have transmission or engine problems.
I hemmed and hawed about it a few days, after looking up some very upset Intrepid owners online. Then I figured what the hey, it does have 170,000 miles on it, so the motor has to be ok and not one of the bad ones. Well, guess what? I made the biggest mistake of my entire adult life. I should have left my money at the auction. They require a deposit on the car, and it is non-refundable.
I picked it up Thursday, and Monday it was in the shop because it is not running properly. They had it 3 days, changed some sensors and some other part, and told me the transmission is bad! I called the auction house, they told me if I had let them know about this sooner they could have done something, but now I have to contact the owner. So I called, and of course the former owner of the car will not call back. It is a used car dealership. My mechanic called them on Friday and told them what is wrong, but the guy he spoke with was only a salesman. He did get hold of the owner of the auction, and he had told me he read my email but couldn't email me back, but he will speak with George about it and show him my email. I still haven't heard from George and I know full well he had business there on Saturday, for the auction. I worried myself literally sick yesterday.
To top it off, a friend came over and followed me out to a local eatery, and told me there is blue smoke coming from the tailpipe. That means it is burning oil according to some folks that know something about cars. So, my green light car has turned into a red light problem. I surely hope they will resolve this. I have no money to put into this car I just bought, and I certainly cannot afford another one.
Fellow mylotters, what would you do in my situation?

Sorry for your mistake. I have a rule of thumb on buying used cars and very simply if it is a Dodge or other Chrysler product with 100,000 mile I leave it alone.

Grandpas are one to keep happy. The only good Chrysler product I ever owned was a Plymouth Valiant with a slant six engine. It was a very hardy one but every time after that I could not get a good one. I now own a Kia and it has been completely rebuilt after being wrecked. 111000 miles on it.
I do like the Ford because they were the only one that did not need Gov't money to stay alive when times got tough. Chrysler has had to be bailed out twice now so they ought to be the best but I don't know.

Yes they all have defective ones from time to time but I seem to see more Chrysler built ones than any of the other brands.

hmmm...that could very well be. It is not grandpa's fault--he passed on quite a long time ago.
I haven't been paying much attention to the car problems, and really I should but there are soooo many models out there, and several different manufacturers it is very difficult for me to keep straight. I buy very used cars, and to try to remember all of the ones with problems, the year made, etc. is impossible.
My kitties are yelling at me to go to bed, so I guess I must.
Goodnite and sweet dreams.
