Buried (2010) made me feel claustrophobic

This was a very disturbing film, well at least at the start, because it made me feel like I was claustrophobic. I could feel the panic and danger that Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) was feeling at the start of the film as he struggles inside the wooden coffin. I could feel the narrowness of the box and how uncomfortable it was to not be able to stand up and move freely. I could not even watch the scenes and I just made glimpses and just listened.
But as the film went on, I felt bored since there was no other persons to see, no other scenes to see, just Paul struggling inside, losing his breath, getting scared of a snake, making phone calls, and all that. It was something new for me, that a film only has one actor, but it wasn’t satisfying for me. I’m a person who gets tired easily of something or someone so seeing only Reynolds all throughout the film made me feel bored.
And even though this was a thriller/suspense movie, one could expect a sad or tragic or even gruesome ending, but I still hoped Paul would have been rescued. Unfortunately, he was not saved. .

I watched that movie too, and I kept during all the movie with the hope that would be rescued, but it never happened, iy hurt me a lot that it may be happening to somebody now
.
It is a very sad story and made feel bad seeing how he wanted the people listend to him but nobody wanted to understand him, everithing began when he wakes up 6 feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival. Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery, and a dwindling oxygen supply become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time - fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only 90 minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare comes true.

Oh yes, Ryan Reynolds was great in portraying the exasperation that he must have felt when nobody understood what he was saying. I mean if I were to receive a phone call from somebody who said that he didn't know where he was and he's probably buried in a coffin, I would think that the man must be mad!

Hi Rosa! Nice synopsis. I think I've read that somewhere. Anyway, it's really frustrating if no one believes in what you're saying. But Uminoor is right. One would be suspicious of a caller who would say that he didn't know where he was and that he's buried in the coffin. It was a dilemma for Paul.

I love Ryan Reynolds. I like his comedy movies so I was quite eager to watch him in a thriller. This is not a horror movie as far I am concerned. It's a thriller/suspense movie. A horror movie must have an element of the supernatural to make it a horror movie in my book. So some of the slasher movies like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Saw and others are not in my definition horror movies.
This movie, to me is a brilliant movie. I watched the movie online and I can feel the character's exasperation. Imagine watching it in the darkness of the cinema, I think the effect would make the movie twice as brilliant.
This is not a movie to be watched mindlessly. You need to use your imagination actively to feel sympathy for the character. I think if you're an American you can really feel for the character.

I disagree. A horror movie does not need to have a supernatural element to make it a horror movie. But since you said it's only in your definition, then I guess I should say, I respect your view.
I don't have anything against Ryan Reynolds but the movie itself made me feel bored along the way.
And also, I don't think you have to be an American just to be able to feel for the character.

I don't mean that if you're not American, you can't feel for the character. I feel for him and I hope that he gets out and gets rescued but if you're an American, you would feel more for him. You can relate to him even more because Americans are favorite targets for kidnapping in foreign countries.

I haven't watched Buried movie so far, just heard from my sis synopsis. Even it sounds boring, I would love to watch the movie if I got the chance to do so. Any I would like to suggest everyone here to watch Sanctum movie. Ryan was not one of the actor, plus I don't really know the actor and the actress of the movie but it's really an exciting movie about an underwater cave diving team experiences. I watched it in cinema and I can't remember if I watched it in 2D or 3D but it really give me the feeling. A thumbs-up for an action and adventure drama!!

I hadn't heard of this one before,Don't think it would have been my sort of a movie,a feature length buried alive plot doesn't appeal, but I'd definitely recommend for other movie discussions that you lead off with a spoiler warning that you're about to reveal (a) major plot point(s) for those who might have an interest and have not yet seen...

I have this movie on dvd but didn't really bother watching it- I love Ryan Reynolds and I even heard that he couldn't wait for this movie to be done and just go home. I can't imagine how an actor would feel being in a small box/ coffin-like and buried for the whole duration of the movie.
I don't really want to watch Ryan in pain.

I don't think he was really in a box. How could they have taken the scenes if it was really a box with four sides? I think one side was always open so they could shot the scenes.

My sister did watch this film once it released on the big screen and she said to me, 'you don't have to watch it. It kinds boring'~(^^)
That's her view and she told me everything from the start till the end. I will not say that it's the best movie, listened to her seems it's boring to me too but I would like to watch it if I got chance to do so.Just now I am not too eager to find this movie to watch online. Perhaps I will wait it to be screened on tv.LOL(^^)(^^)
