My kids are grown but my grandkids are not. I don't believe in allowing children to have the freedom of participating in an adult world even if those adults act like children. I believe kids need protecting from the world for as long as they are children. Childhood is about joy and learning and kids need shielding from the possible dangers and nastiness that can occur on line sometimes.

I know this is not a popular response but it's how I feel. I would never allow my child if they were under the age of 13 to be on Facebook. I am a firm believer that kids should do things that are age appropriate. I am the same with even drinking. Everything should be when it's legal or appropriate. I have raised two children under these firm rules and I two well adjusted kids because of it. If we allow our children to do what everyone elses kids are doing that's wrong and it's not teaching them that there are rules for reasons. Facebook like other social net working sites have people who abuse it. It can open the door to many problems that are avoidable. A lot of parents say oh they can play games and etc. They can play games on your account if that's all they do. To many parents let their kids do things like this because their friends do. It has to stop some where and it's the parents responsibility to enforce rules.

I wouldn't but then I don't have kids - or a facebook account. I did have one but I deleted it because on Facebook it seems everyone acts like a child anyway, which is probably why it is so difficult to tell the real age of everyone on there!

I don't see a problem with this. My younger sister got deleted for making an account under age so sometimes they get caught. I don't think they are hurting anyone so I don't see a problem with this. If you find it wrong or annoying then don't add them as a friend or if really are an extremist about it, report them for being underaged. I personally don't mind it though as long as they don't post a bunch of annoying posts and stuff on your wall all the time.

I cannot fully relate to this because I don't have children yet. But I do have younger siblings, 9-10-15... and to say, I don't have problems with it. It's the way of the new world. Surfing and Networking stuff actually help them adjust to the competitive nature of today's lifestyle. (AND OF COURSE PEER PRESSURE! *Wink)

It's not the kids being underage that bothers me, it's those *looking* for the kids underage. Children can give out information without even knowing that they're doing it. And knowing how my children are, they would add anyone and everyone to their friend's list. I agree with FB's policy.
