Making a sourdough starter...

Today i have decided to make sourdough starter to make artisan bread (breads that uses all natural ingredients).I'm thinking of making a baguette out of it. for those who doesn't know what is a sourdough starter its a a mixture of flour and water and bakers let them ferment by catching the yeast in the air (though the flour has yeast on it already). This method is long used way back when commercial yeast isn't available. The yeast in the sourdough starter behaves differently from the commercial yeast we used. Wish me luck i hope the starter goes well and i can create a baguette out from it.

I wonder if your sourdough starter is similar to friendship bread starter. Several times people have started the friendship bread dough and then they give you a cup or so of it, and you have to feed it daily, or so. Then when it is ready you give a friend a cup and they do the same. Plus they get to keep some for themselves to continue feeding it and baking with it. Good luck with your starter.

hmm... I think they are the same since it only use flour and water and they let them set in open air and they are both preferment that doesn't use commercial yeast just the wild yeast. my sourdough starter is already bubbly even though its just day one hahaha... I think the yeast in our country is aggressive XD... happy baking =)!

I am not sure what we use to feed it. All I know is when it is ready to bake it made a great coffee cake. Good luck with your sour dough starter.

hmmm sadly the first sourdough turned bad it smells stinky hahaha i just read that a yeast living in the flour needs an acid environment for it to wake up first, sadly another bacteria waked up first cause i only use water and flour with the first one.So i used a pineapple juice and flour mixture it went well =).

I somehow enjoy kneading. It sometimes bore me to wait for a long time for the fermenting and proofing. That's why I prefer cakes that breads cause they sell more expensive and I like decorating cakes.

Yeah ... i think the kneading is the hardest part for me it takes 15 or 20 minutes to make the dough really elastic so that's why I occasionally make bread and go to making cakes hahaha...
