It is really attracting that those financial institutions start to send those solicitation mail on personal loan and new credit cards offer again. You can access those funds once again for 12 months or lower interest rate for shopping or home improvements whatever you intend to do with those money. They all looks pretty attractive, and tempting. All you need to do just complete the form inside the envelope, or call their 1 - 800 number or access the promotional code in their main website. How convenient! Those devil's words. I would absolutely advise against it, if you don't have any emergency need of borrowing money. You just dig deep for yourself into those big debt. I learn my lesson well, and I don't want to go through it over again, it just stressful and scary. So, toss away those solicitation letters or rip them out.

Oh you are like me, I had a very bad experience with a credit card and there another that is still giving me problems. I receive in my mail everyday and offer of a credit card but I don't want any, and besides I don't have a job so I wouldn't have money to pay for it.

Reading those solicitation, I felt like they will set a trap for me to fall into again. So, I learn it well. No, I won't join any of them again.

Well, I deal with this kind of things with the same attitude as you in the past. But these days I have changed a bit. While it may feel strange to borrow money when you have savings in the bank, it may actually make sense in certain cases. The problem is liquidity. The thing is when we need money, usually our savings won't be enough and we need some extra credit. If we draw money from credit card, the cost will be very high. But if we have obtained the extra credit beforehand, the interest rate is usually way lower. So, this is like paying a small fee on some extra cash in your control power. It is like insurance where you pay the premium and it isn't necessarily you will need to claim it. But if you do need to claim it, you would be relieved to know you are actually insured.

oh its always like that i guess, especially now that people are not much into credit cards here in Manila because of the high rates. they sure offer it now without supporting documents unlike before that it ws really hard to apply for a loan or a credit card.

i admire you for going out and expressing your opinion on the matter of solicitation and invitation for new credit cards. that's the financial institutions' way of enticing potential card owners to get credit cards from them with a promise of low interest and easy processing. but in reality, these offerings will bury one in deep debt with some outrageous charges. for me, cash is still king.

I don´t even open the envelopes anymore, friend. And sometimes people call me on the phone and I answer that I only accet money as a gift. They are shoked, of course, and hang up. I don´t buy anything I can´t pay for unless, as you say, there´s an emergency. But even now that I have had some emergencies due to my health, my family has helped out and I´ll pay them when I can.
