Ever try making your own fries

We know you can find fries in most fast food places. Some places like Wendys even started making the sea salt fries. What is it about fries that's got us so addicted. Don't forget the ketchup! I make my own fries sometimes better known as homefries. I start with clean potatoes. Cut them any way you like, I prefer cutting them round 1/4 inch thickness. Fry them till golden brown on medium heat. Place on paper towel to absorb excess oil add salt for taste. Enjoy!!

i did my own french fries and i have my own way of making it. i would clean the potato, then slice them like those thin slices from fast food then soak the slices in water with salt. that makes the natural salty taste. after soaking it for some time i fry it then let it stand on a strainer to remove excess oils then serve!! yum yum yum! enjoy!

yes, i do dry them. especially the water has been mixed with salt. it would also give an exaggerated reaction with the oil.

Just curious. Do you let the potatoes dry before you fry them. I know how it is to mix water and oil.

My hubby makes his own fries similar to you except he lays his on a cookie sheet caked in margerine and seasonings and bakes them. For myself I cut the potato lengthwise into 6-8 spears, put them in a bag w/ some oil & shake, put on cookie sheet and sprinkle favorite seasonings on it and bake.

I will try your method next time. I no baking will allow the flavors to marinade better. I might throw some burgers in with it. How long do you bake yours?

Welcome to mylot and go read the rules as you cannot post recipes here. As for potatoes,I only eat fries made at home because I use oil that has not been reused and it´s 100% sunflower oil. I don´t think there´s anyone in the world who doesn´t know how to make fried potatoes. I suppose it´s easier to buy them though. But I hate the smell of those places where whry fry the potatoes with stale oil. ICKY!!!

That would make the money saved from going to a fast food restaurant worth it. But I never tried to make it before. I know if I tried to make it, it wouldn't be as good as the ones you get from a package in a grocery store or the ones you get from a fast food restaurant. My favorite fries would have to be from McDonald's.

I love homemade french fries. I love that Wendy's has started selling them. I like the other places fries too but sometimes with McDonalds you can tell the oil is old or something because the fries don't taste right. I make my own french fries at home too. I have a little thing that cuts the potatoes into french fries. You just put it in and push the handle down and it pushes the potato through the blades and slices them nice.

hi ollanan oh yes when I was still in my own apartment I made my own fries and used olive oil and cheese and they were so good. the ones they give us here at G old crest are pretty good bu t they are not as healthy as home fries are, I have never met anyone that did not like fries nor potato chips. I am an American so use other terms for our foods here. I guess chips are something else in Brittian so dont know about that at all.

I make my own fires, my son like them a lot.but i only do so when he request it.what i do is is to cut my potato in thin slices and boil mine in salt for a few minutes, and then drain of the water off. and then fry them till they are golden brown, and place them on a dish with paper towel so that the excess oil will be remove.

Hi Ollanna11! I sure love fries. When we do them at home, I usually just buy the frozen ones in the supermarket because I am not good at cutting vegetables evenly. They usually appear in different sizes and shapes, hehehe. The look is terrible when that happens and nobody wants to eat them. So we just buy them. Anyway, aside from deep frying them, I sometimes steam them if I do not feel like eating oily stuff.

I'd like to try frying my own fries, but for now, I'll just buy some fries on the nearest Fast Food chain near me, where they sell a Sour Cream flavored one :)
