I work craft shows now for years. I have always made items and then wrapped them up into gift baskets and what not. Well this year I am still making my jewelry but I also sell Avon. I made up my bracelets and earrings as well as necklaces, knitting needles and other accessories. Now I made little gift sets up with my handmade items and have been selling these. I went to three shows and had no problems. I went down today to pay for a table at one next weekend and they told me I was not eligible to sell at their show becasue some of my items where not hand made. Now my sets are for example a ring I made matched up with a coordinating nail polish. A necklace with matching earrings sold in a novelty Avon box. One of the other crafts shows I worked was supposed to be handmade only but because I had things bundled together they where ok with it.. as long as at least 50% of the gifts where handmade. I mean I know it is this groups show and I will live by their rules of coarse but I just found it to be overly picky. I mean I know they just don't want people buying cheap crap and reselling it there as though they made it, but really.

I would say if it's 50% or more home made then I don't see a problem. I've seen boths like that where they looked like crafts but then they weren't but charged people and gave the impression they were.

Well can see why people wouldn't want mass produced items at a show..

Wow... well that's a new one to me. Do they let people sell music as I know they do not dance as well. Here it is popular for bands to sell music cds at shows.

Personally I have ran into this issue a number of times. I sell Beef, Buffalo and Turkey Jerky, Fruit Stix, and Pet Jerky. I also sell Hand Crocheted items and candles. Some of the candles are hand made, while others are not. So there are some shows I have done, that I am only allowed to do the Jerky and then others I am allowed to do everything, and others that can only be Craft items.
I have often wondered why they cannot allow a little of both everywhere, but many times rules will be rules and they are there to be enforced. I do not have enough hand crocheted items or hand made items usually to just do a show with only that type of stuff, but would Love to get enough made up somehow. Just wishing everywhere could take a little bit of both and just be happy.

That is a little crazy, but I see where they are coming from too. I think that in this economy that they would take what they could get. It is not like the customers are not going to think that it is a cute idea and spend their money which means that the show is making money as well.

I am doing a craft show this weekend in our mall and they allow both....but I also know of a few that are like the one you are talking about. In fact you have to submit photo's of your things so they can make sure they are handmade. I went to one show that was supposed to be all handmade..they have venders there that didn't have handmade so a few of the crafters went to the office and asked for their money back....and left! I don't see anything wrong with what you are doing. I sell my books and framed poetry that I wrote and no one questions that.

I know some who are very offended by it because they add their time to the cost which adds up to more then most resold items. Others just think it should be their own and that is it.
