'Why' itself is a why. Why why? To your context I believe completely it is because of human race. God, the creator made this earth so beautiful and wonderful. But man filled with all kinds of evil have polluted the earth with all sorts of dangerous gases, liquids and solids. The usage of natural resources is beyond the actual need of the mankind. The rich make use of the poor and the nature to have a happy life. Contentment is the greatest, this is what the Bible says. But human race has not learned to be of that kind, instead do everything possible to destroy it without looking forward at the consequences. Ultimately the creator will make this earth new as the Bible says which will not have such calamities. The only solution is Turn away from evil, and turn to God.
