It seems that the ONLY way of converting an Adobe Director file (Shockwave) is to use a screen capture software. 1) Find and install a good screen capture software which can handle movies 2) Run the .dcr file in Director or using the Shockwave browser plug-in (you will probably have to create a simple .html file as a 'wrapper'). 3) Capture the movie sequence from the screen and save in whatever format is most convenient and can most easily be converted to .swf. 4) Use a good file conversion software to create a Flash movie from the .avi or whatever format you have saved the capture in. The .exe format is simply an executable file (ANY executable file). In a video context, it will be a self-executing file 'wrapper' which will contain a viewer and the appropriate data such that the viewer will run and automatically present the data it contains.

I also searched widely. I think that, because of the interactive nature of Adobe Director/Shockwave format games, it just isn't possible without completely rewriting the game in another programming language. Even if you had Adobe Director, it seems, you wouldn't be able to export the file as another file type, even as a Flash file (which is also owned by Adobe).

May be there is a player similar to shortwave, in which one can run .dcr files.
