Australia after scoring commanding 284 runs in the first innings of the first test of three match series at Cape Town in South Africa, dismissed the hosts for mere 96 runs in less than 25 overs there by taking a solid lead of 188 runs. Put in to bat by S.A. after winning the toss yesterday Australia struggled on a fast bouncy pitch. They were reduced to 13/2 in 6 overs and then lost their ex skipper Ponting at the score of 40. Then came the all important partnership between skipper Clark and Marsh who put on 103 runs which brought Australia back into the game. Clark went on to score a magnificent 151, who was the last man to be out. The skippers innings was very important in the light of the fact that only three other batsman reached double figure. South Africa in reply could only manage 96. Only skipper Graem Smith and other opener Rudolph could reach double figure of 37 and 18 respectively. None other batsman could reach double figure. Australia has already lost three wickets in their second innings with only 13 on the board but they are sitting pretty with their first innings lead of 199 runs and as the trend goes appear certain to go one up in the series. South Africa has now bowled out Australia for 47 to set up an interesting match. The pitch is not unplayable. But both sets have bowled brilliantly and the batsmen have played some incredibly stupid shots. Now South Africa is chasing 236 to win the match. At one point Australia was in a position to get bowled for the lowest total ever in a test match and still win the match!!
Cheers!

I feel it is the combination of very good bowling with bad batting on a bowler friendly pitch. If a batsman applies himself he can score on this pitch. This is proved by 151 from Michael Clark. South Africa have also started playing well in the second innings. They are now 72/1 and target is not that steep. Australia have already started feeling heat. In any case we are in for a great game of cricket. Let us see who succeeds.

South Africa went on to win the match pretty easily by 8 wickets. Centuries from Smith and Amla sealed the easy win. After the dramatics of yesterday, there was not much luck for the bowlers except for a dropped catch by Watson, a life for Amla which he capitalized.
Cheers!

It seems a low scoring test match.Australis is in commanding position. But they are now struggling in their 2 nd innings. As south africa is also a good team,I hope they will come back and win this match. But they have to be very careful,as its a too pace and bouncy pitch

Australia scoring 284 in the first innings, the match can not be termed as a low scoring although they slumped to 28 for 9 in second innings. The first innings lead of 188 will prove decisive for Australia. South Africa can not perform better on this pitch. It appears to be deteriorating as time passes by.
