Dogs who chase shadows

Do you have a dog who chases shadows or beams of light? Our Border Collie does this on a regular basis. He will chase any shadow he can when the wind blows and the leaves make shadows on the ground he could spend hours trying to catch them, off the ground. He even digs at them. If we pick up a flashlight he knows that it also gives him something to chase, we don't need to turn it on, he knows what it does and gets excited just to see it in our hands. The same goes for a laser pointer. We have crystals that hang in the windows and when sunlight hits them they emit rainbows which he chases also. We are careful and don't go too far because he can become single minded about this obsession.

That's funny! My dog when I was young used to chase his tail :) I really enjoyed it! He was my favourite dog but unfortunately he was lost, I only had him for 4 years.

Ahhh, I have lost a favorite dog too soon also. Just imagine this dog running and jumping and digging in a doggy effort to catch that elusive shadow and have a good laugh!

I'm sorry, I know it feels sad to loose your dog.. Dogs can be really funny, sometimes they chase everything! Have you ever seen yours trying to catch a fly that annoys him? He was making me laugh a lot with that.

Seems as if we as humans make things for our pets we think they will appreciate only to find we are the ones who like it! Your dog may get used to the toy, sometimes takes a few days for them to find a new idea is okay. Keep trying on a small scale to get your dog used to that new toy, a little bit every day. Don't overuse the noise part, should be fine!
