i would like to sponsor a child, and am thinking of doing it through sos children's villages. i have been thinking of it for long. actually, i would love to adopt one, but cannot because no one in the family would support the idea and i believe a child should be loved and cherished not just provided with material needs.
is there anyone amongst you who has sponsored a child? would you share your experience with me? or if you know anything about sponsoring a child, or any organisation in particular do tell me about it. ( my comma key is stuck so can't use it in the required places please do without it).
hope to see plenty of responses from you all out there.
thank you.

i have never sponsored a child but i also would like to someday. That is terrible that your family would not support you for adopting a child. The important thing with that though is that if you were to adopt a child they would be loved by YOU. No one else really matters.
If you do want to go the route of sponsoring make sure that you investigate as many places as possible. I knew someone who did it and they would get letters from the child, and pictures. Unfortunately much of the money you give ends up not being used for your child and rather is used for the organization.
I have learned recently of a place that allows you to buy "shares" for the needy. Someone needs surgery but it costs $5,000. You would have the option of donating the full $5,000 if you had that kind of money or you could donate a share of that. Like $10.00 I think that every penny you give goes directly to that person. When I find that website I will post it here for you.

Thanks Rose, I appreciate all that you have said - you are right indeed. The problem, however, is finding the right place where the money really reaches the needy.
Do let me know whenever you find such a thing. I shall look forward to hearing from you.
