Their friendship is just moving and beautiful, does someone can tell how long do they know each other? I read many fanfiction that dates their friendship for 70 years, Aragorn would had been 20...

I don't believe there is any exact time they met in the book. Aragorn lived amoung the elves for many years & may have met Legolas at any point during that time. I'm not sure there's even a reference to them having much more than met before the elven council of the ring. I'll have to do some research but I think their freindship mostly developed after that.

Thank you so much. I'm really curious about this, I love their slash fanfiction and regular ones as well and these two carachters just fascinates me. In the movie and in the book I got the feeling they knew each other, I think that elves might have traveled from real to realm to meet each other, like Mirkwood elves could possibly have come to Rivendell for a friendly visit but there's nothing writen about that. The most funny and intersting friendship though it's between Legolas and Gimli, that was truly unexpected for both of them I think. I like how Tolkien teach us that differences means nothing, that even though the two races have never been friendly it's just just a stupid thing don't try to get over differences and enjoy, as Legolas and Gimli REALLY end up together in valinor and all. They are those known as "forever friends". Very beautiful indeed.

Hi Katie: I think this is a hard question. I don't know actually that they were friends for so long but I love this friendship. Legolas and Aragorn friendship is one of the most memorable friendships of the Lord of the Rings for me and also Legolas and Gimli. ALVARO

Hi Alvaro! You changed your pic! The friendship between elf and dwarf was beautiful and rare in those days as they were having problems between their races. I read the book in the part that Gimli and Legolas finally talk about it and we can see it's a delicate subject as both seems to be a little angry about it, and I got the feeling it wasn't always like that, in the Mines of Moria the Elves even lived near the Dwarves and had a tree to separate their lands, but they were very close. And the doors of the Mines has elvish writtings in there. Now I'm very curious about Leggy and Aragorn, most because of the movie, Leggy was so loyal and I read so many Lotr fanfic and they always date their friendship back to 70 years but it might not be true as fanfiction is the world of imagination, they (and we, I write as well, lol) are just creating alternative universes for our beloved Lotr carachters.

Aragorn might have met Legolas when he was chasing Gollum, because Gollum was caught in Mirkwood. Unless Legolas was away on buisness for his father I suppose they would have met there. Or was Aragorn and Legoals there when they drove the Necromancer out? Then they would have met during the Hobbit. But are you sure that they haven't mixed Legolas and Arwen? Arargorn must have met Arwen about 70 years before Lord of the Rings, because he met her just after he came of age.

I don't think she was in Lothlórien all the time, although she'd be there for quite some years so it would seem very long for humans. I think she used to visit her grand parents there quite often. It says she visited her grandmother (Galadriel) at that time, it's not just around the corner so she'd probably stay for some time when she was there.

Really happy one of my favorite topics had another answer, sorry for taking so long! I see, maybe that's why I see in fanfics how she's not in Imladris/Rivendell yet. And also answers why isn't weird Aragorn kind of married his sister , they are really not related but if he grew up with her it would be a little bit. (Of course they are not related, she's an elf and he is a very, very hairy human, lol.)

Wow, you really know your stuff! Thanks! No I'm fascinated with fanfiction, I think there are amateur authors that don't have self confidence cause they are already better than many that's been published. In many genres I love the friendship of Aragorn and Legolas and it seems there's no record about their meeting, wow the Necromancer, I'd love to know more about that. Oh about Aragorn and Arwen, I see now how it's not strange they are 'like' brothers but ended up together, it seems she was in Lothlórien the whole time right? A beautiful love story, one of the best.

My gosh, it's been ages since I've read the books, and I can't recall any exact timeframe of when they became friends. If I recall properly though, didn't Elrond take Aragorn in and raise him as his own? Heh, now you have me curious about the answer to this question. I'm sure it's hinted somewhere in the books. I'll have to get the books and read them again because now I want to know.
