Do you prefer self - check out or a cashier?

I noticed that not all of us would prefer self - check out at a retail stores, or supermarkets. One of the reason is that if we have coupons on hands, a self - check out become extremely difficult to work on the coupon price reduction at the end. I would rather prefer a cashier to do some manual work on our coupons. Also, some supermarkets would not want self - checkout since shoplifting rate becomes highest. And the stand in lines was so long. In BJ wholesales, the lines are mostly self - check out, while in Costco new stores, they prefer cashiers on the site. So, what do you prefer, a self check out, or cashier on the site?

Until recently I never used the self-check out and saw that a lot of people were using them but having problems. That is why I was staying away from them. But I noticed recently that people weren't having problems anymore with them and they were going through those line up pretty quickly so I tried it. I had only a few items and none of them were from the produce so I did it and it was quite easy. After I put my items through I put my coupons through and didn't have a problem with them either. My coupons all had bar codes on them so all I had to do was scan them and they went through. Now I almost always use the self check out. The only time I don't use it is if I have a big cart full or if I have produce that has to be weighed. And I like it better because it is a lot faster and I am out of the store a lot quicker. littlemissy signing off for now. talk to you later my friend

I prefer to have someone check me out and not use the self check. There was a time when I would NOT use the self check, but sometimes it is better than waiting in a long line for someone with a cart full of items. I have always felt that the self check is taking a job away from someone who could be checking me out. I sometimes shop very late at night and the store will close the live cashiers and only have the self checks open. This is annoying if I have many things in the shopping cart and have to check them out myself and keep them in the area they need to stay until you are finished. Most times I do not use the self check.

When it is small purchases, I prefer self check-out as it is convenient and fast. Otherwise, I prefer a cashier to help me with the checking of all the items I am buying. It is so problematic if there are quite some items I need to buy if I have to do it all by myself...

I think self check out is a great idea, however, it does need to be better formatted for people. I have used it once in a CVS store. In CVS, they have mostly self check outs now, and only a few cashiers. Maybe they figured it out better then the others. But I notice them popping up in lots of stores and super markets. It could work very well as long as it is totally user friendly. But for right now, most people prefer the real life person doing the check out.

I prefer self checkout because I feel like it's faster and easier! I hate standing behind a long line of people and watching the cashier manually scan each item, oh it's horrendous and time-wasting! I like to be efficient and employ the little self checkouts so I can be speedy and I can wastemthe least amount of time! That's what I call a win-win! :)

It actually depends for me on how many things I'm buying at that moment! If it's just a few things then I want to be in and out the supermarket as quickly as possible so I prefer the self-check out. If it's a lot then I prefer a cashier especially when I have coupons because I think the self-check out is a bit too iffy for them. Here in Belgium (I've also seen this done in the UK) they've got a system that combines both, you get a little scanning machine to scan everything while you're shopping and then pay at a cashier. I like this system most of all because you can see your total before you get to the cashier and the scanner lets you remove items as well from your list. Very useful!

Chashier all the way. I don't like all this new techo stuff. I would rather wait in a quenue and have a cashier than do it my self. I really don't know what the world is coming to.

Depends on how much I have purchased. Most the time though, I really do have no choice. I tend to do grocery shopping early in the morning and it does seem like there are no cashiers or one and other people having pretty much the same things. Plus who really wants to wait in line for fifteen minutes for a handful of ideas. Self check out just seems to be a bit of an easier time all things considered. Providing it wants to scan on this day. Believe me, when it doesn't want to scan my groceries properly, it can be a rather agonizing experience to say the very least. Yet there are just times where I head right into the self check out and just really get all of my items down. If I have a lot, it's just worth the wait for the cashier. Otherwise, self check out, here we come.

I don't mind using self checkouts with one or two items and where I just have to slide the item without using any special features (coupons, sales etc.) but other than that I believe it's faster with cashier since they are well trained and faster than us customers trying to figure out the self checkout.

I prefer cashier because you pretty much give them the item and they do everything for you. At the self check out "things", you have to do it yourself, and I sometimes get pretty lost in what button I'm suppose to press. Sometimes, they run out of plastic bags and there's no one to replace the plastic bags. Like you said, people can scan anything and just put it in their bag, people can steal just like that whereas at a cashier the person does everything for you so you can't be sneaky! It's nice to be greeted by a person too, does the self check out greet you? No. It's just a automatic machine that talks to you. I don't like those self check out things, they're stealing away jobs and some people can't work as cashiers anymore. I'm glad my supermarket doesn't have those self serve things, they employ all cashiers there. Imagine a world operated by robots! I think I prefer a human world.

For me it just depends on my mood and how much stuff I have. If I run into the store to grab just a few things then I don't mind the self checkout because it's faster and I can get in and out. But If have a lot I'd rather stand in line for the cashier to help me. I worked at Albertsons when we first got the self checkouts and they used to irritate the mess out of me. They would always say "put the item in the bagging area" regardless if I had already put it in there or not. It made me a huge headache because we'd have to wait for a cashier to come over and fix it then we could "try" again and HOPE that it worked correctly.
